In, ahem, breaking news, a woman has just discovered what the purpose of those weird shoulder buttons are, which is a query that almost every woman has most definitely had. Typically found on leather jackets, they’re always kind of just there with no discernible purpose, UNTIL NOW.

Francheska Horsburgh, a teenager from Cumbria, posted to Twitter her groundbreaking finding, and the post quickly went viral.

We weren’t the only one’s completely shook by this news, with the post attracting 138,000 likes so far and 55,000 retweets.

The revelation at first came as a shock. Not only because we had literally no idea that this is their apparent purpose, but also because: Is it just us or do these buttons always come undone, making their alleged functionality flawed???

Keeping these things clicked in is hard enough, and we can only imagine adding a bag would be impractical.

Upon looking at the responses to the tweet, the post seems to have actually caused some debate within the twittersphere, with some users saying the buttons are actually just a type of style derived from military style coats.
