Every expat rom-com to binge when you want to fall in love in a foreign city.

It's impossible not to romanticise going away to a foreign city.

Whether it's the new sights and sounds, the possibilities of a sea-change or city-escape — or most importantly, the sexy accents — these kinds of escapist stories lend themselves to making the perfect romantic comedies.

We're falling in love! We're on a little holiday! It's such a fun time!

The latest addition to the genre is Too Much, a Netflix romantic comedy series created by Lena Dunham.

The story follows Jessica (played by Megan Stalter), a New York workaholic not quite coping in the aftermath of a messy breakup.

Seeking a fresh start, she moves to London, expecting solitude, but instead finds an unexpected romance with Felix (Will Sharpe), a dishevelled indie musician with emotional baggage.

A big part of the show's appeal is how these two people navigate coming from contrasting cultures — a brash and brave American forming a relationship with someone raised in repressive London high society.

This is where the magic happens, and if you're in search of more TV shows and movies with a similar expat love story feel, look no further.

The cast also includes Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie, Emily's tough boss, and Ashley Park as Mindy, her newfound bestie. The series is centred on the cultural clashes between American and French people, set against a glamorous Parisian backdrop.

Under The Tuscan Sun.

Under the Tuscan Sun stars Diane Lane as Frances Mayes, a recently divorced writer from San Francisco who impulsively buys a villa in Tuscany while on vacation, hoping to rebuild her life.

The film follows Frances as she renovates her new home, forms friendships with locals like the eccentric actress Katherine (Lindsay Duncan) and real estate agent Martini (Vincent Riotta), and has a sexy romance with Marcello (Raoul Bova). That's amore etc etc.

You can watch Under The Tuscan Sun on Disney+.

Crazy Rich Asians.

This iconic rom-com follows Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), an NYU professor who travels with her boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding) to Singapore for a wedding, only to discover he belongs to one of the wealthiest families in Asia.

Rachel must navigate the lavish world of Singapore's elite, along with disapproval from Nick's formidable mother, Eleanor (Michelle Yeoh). The film's ensemble cast includes Gemma Chan, Awkwafina, and Ken Jeong.

Eat, Pray, Love.

Any expat love story list would be incomplete without mentioning Eat Pray Love — it's basically a biblical text for girlies with a wanderlust.

The book-to-screen adaption stars Julia Roberts as Elizabeth 'Liz' Gilbert, a woman who, after a painful divorce, sets out on a year-long journey across Italy, India and Bali to rediscover herself.

The cast includes Javier Bardem as Felipe, her love interest in Bali, James Franco as David, and Billy Crudup as her ex-husband, Stephen.

You can watch Eat, Pray, Love on Stan and Netflix.

From Scratch.

From Scratch is a romantic drama miniseries starring Zoe Saldaña as Amy Wheeler, an American artist who travels to Florence, Italy, for an art program and unexpectedly falls in love with Lino Ortolano (Eugenio Mastrandrea), a Sicilian chef. Mamma mia!

Their relationship blossoms in Italy, and the story follows them as they build a life together back in the United States. The cast also features Danielle Deadwyler as Zora, Judith Scott as Maxine, and Kellita Smith as Lynn.

But be warned: what starts as a fun, sugary watch soon descends into a heart-wrenching story of love and loss so keep a tissue box handy... or two.

You can watch From Scratch on Netflix.

When In Rome.

Did you forget this movie ever existed until right this very moment? Probably!

But alas, When in Rome definitely did exist and starred Kristen Bell as Beth, a driven New York art curator unlucky in love. While in Rome for her sister's wedding, she impulsively takes coins from a fountain said to make their owners fall in love with whoever possesses them.

Back in New York, Beth is pursued by a group of bewitched suitors like Danny DeVito, Will Arnett, Jon Heder, and her future-husband Dax Shepard.

Meanwhile, she questions her feelings for Nick (Josh Duhamel), the charming best man she met in Rome, unsure if his affection is real or the product of some spooky coin magic. A classic question for the ages!

You can watch When In Rome on Disney+.

The Holiday.

This list would be incomplete without the ultimate expat rom-com: The Holiday, of course.

This classic Christmas flick has the effortlessly charming Cameron Diaz as Amanda, an American film trailer producer, and Kate Winslet as Iris, a British journalist.

Both women, reeling from heartbreak, swap homes for Christmas: Amanda moves to a cottage in a snowy English village, while Iris relocates to a mansion in sunny Los Angeles.

Of course, romances soon blossom for both women, as Amanda falls for Iris's charming brother Graham (Jude Law hotter than a human has ever/will ever be!), and Iris bonds with witty composer Miles (Jack Black, also very hot!?).

A truly perfect movie.

The Holiday can be streamed on literally every streaming platform (besides Disney+) in Australia (not kidding).

The Buccaneers.

Okay, this one is a little rogue, but the crux of the plot is somewhat similar to Too Much. Stay with me!

The Buccaneers is a historical drama series set in the 1870s, following five wealthy and ambitious American women who travel to London to secure husbands and titles during the debutante season.

The ensemble cast includes Kristine Froseth and Alisha Boe, with Leighton Meester joining the cast for Season 2.

You can watch The Buccaneers on Apple TV+.

Basically, every Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen film ever made.

Okay, I know these movies are technically marketed for teenagers and feature two teenage Olsens, but there's no denying that the essence of most of Mary-Kate and Ashley's catalog of films was: 'Hey, what if we had a silly adventure in [insert location]!'

The best of these movies are Passport to Paris, Our Lips Are Sealed (set in Sydney, Australia!), Winning London, When in Rome (Kristen Bell is shaking!), The Challenge and the best of the bunch, Holiday in the Sun.

The storylines of these films don't really matter. You'll have fun!

You can watch these movies on an assortment of platforms (Google them!).
