Footy Show co-host Erin Molan ditched her boyfriend for a cuter date at the Dally M Awards.

The Dally M Award for ‘Cutest Date of the Night’ doesn’t currently exist, but if it did there was a clear standout from this year’s ceremony: Erin Molan’s plus one, Tom Chell.

The sports reporter walked the red carpet with her 10-year-old friend, and if her Instagram snaps are anything to go by it wouldn’t be an understatement to say she’d found the ultimate date.

A gentleman who’ll hold the hem of your dress up while you navigate an escalator? It doesn’t get more perfect than that.

It seems The Footy Show co-host wasn’t the only one in awe of her “main man”, with her Instagram followers and even the Dally M media keeping an eye on Chell.

“It’s exhausting work keeping up with this superstar,” she captioned a photo of the two taken after they’d fulfilled their red carpet duties (and changed straight into their pyjamas, natch).

“Sooooo in demand by all the media!”

Chell was clearly a crowd favourite but it wasn’t his first time on the Dally M red carpet, having accompanied Molan to the NRL awards night last year as well.

What makes this even sweeter is the touching story behind the duo’s friendship.

As she explained in a recent Instagram post, Molan first met Chell through Police Legacy and The Footy Show, albeit in sad circumstances.

“[Tommy] lost his Dad – who was a wonderful policeman – to Bowel Cancer last year … I am so grateful @nrlfootyshow and Police Legacy brought us together,” she wrote.

The illness is one that has also touched Molan's family, with her sister Sarah having been diagnosed at age 29. Molan has since become an ambassador for Bowel Cancer Australia.

In an birthday tribute to Chell on Instagram yesterday, the 34-year-old added, "Can't wait to see you tonight rocking your new suit on the DALLY M Red Carpet!

"Your Dad is looking down on you right now with the BIGGEST smile because you are so strong, brave and the best 'looker afterer of your mumma' ever."

While Molan clearly had a fantastic time with her Dally M date, fans might be curious as to why her boyfriend Sean Ogilvy wasn't in attendance. The answer is simple — it just wasn't his scene.

"Sean’s not even coming. When we’re done with the [red] carpet, I’m going to get room service and watch it on TV,” Molan told the Daily Telegraph last night.

"He’s very handsome, but he’s not really a red carpet man."

Fair enough.
