The White Lotus just scored 23 Emmy nominations. But these snubs are causing major controversy.

The 2025 Emmy Award nominations are in, and as usual… people are mad.

The Studio emerged as an underdog, racking up 23 nods and dominating the comedy categories. For instance, in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category, five out of the six nominees were for The Studio. Seth Rogen's new Apple series taking aim at Hollywood has truly taken over!

Severance and The White Lotus led the drama races, with Abbott Elementary, Hacks, and The Bear continuing their dominance in comedy.

The White Lotus cast has predictably dominated most of the drama categories, with an impressive total of 23 nominations this year.

In the Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category, nominations rightfully went to Aimee Lou Wood, Carrie Coon, Parker Posey and Natasha Rothwell for their incredible performances.

For Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Jason Isaacs, Sam Rockwell and Walton Goggins were all recognised.

That said, there were some noticeable snubs. Michelle Monaghan, Sam Nivola and Leslie Bibb failed to make the cut, but eyebrows were particularly raised about Patrick Schwartzenegger not being nominated despite his heavily praised performance. Especially since Sam Rockwell was nominated in the Supporting category, despite only being in a handful of scenes.

Then there was The Handmaid's Tale's Elisabeth Moss, who wasn't nominated, even though she delivered a stunning performance for the show's final season, marking the end of an era for the series and actress who have dominated awards discussions for years.

Selena Gomez and Steve Martin were not nominated for Only Murders in the Building, even as their co-star Martin Short maintained his nomination streak.

The Comedy Actress category also excluded Natasha Lyonne for her much-praised turn in Poker Face, and Kate Hudson for her beloved return to the rom-com genre in Running Point.

In supporting and guest categories, big names like Colman Domingo in The Four Seasons and Paul Giamatti for his Black Mirror episode were also overlooked despite the buzz surrounding their Netflix roles.

Then were some surprising TV shows that were completely ignored. Despite strong buzz, Yellowjackets and Squid Game were snubbed. Despite garnering huge acclaim and glowing reviews, The Rehearsal and Industry also went unrecognised.

Then there were the surprise inclusions like Uzo Aduba earning a lead actress nod for the now-cancelled The Residence, and acclaimed director Martin Scorsese's acting debut in The Studio drawing a nod in the guest category.

On the flip side, history was made in the comedy field as Ayo Edebiri received multiple nominations, making her the youngest Black woman to receive three acting nominations for her role in The Bear. She's also the second woman ever to be nominated in the same year in both acting and directing for a comedy series, following in the footsteps of Lena Dunham for Girls.

Bella Ramsey made history as the first openly non-binary person to earn more than one nomination for their role in The Last of Us.

Adolescence's breakout star, the 15-year-old acting novice Owen Cooper, was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series, becoming the youngest actor to ever get nominated in the category.
