Emma Stone is one of the most together famous people in the world right now. She’s quick-witted, sweet, and sensible in a way we’re never really expecting, in this Lindsay, Britney, Miley world.
The girl dissolves into tears whenever you mention a Spice Girl, and she calls her own boyfriend out for casual sexism. She’s, basically, the absolute best.
Emma’s on a promotional tour with her boyfriend/co-star Andrew Garfield for The Amazing Spiderman 2 at the moment. Which, like most celebrity outings in the world, requires Emma to wear a series of carefully chosen outfits.
Fans have helpfully observed that Emma looks smaller than usual in her fancy celebrity outfits. We have to admit, we’d noticed Emma’s tinier frame… but now that she’s come out with this sensational response, we’ll step back and let the girl do her thing.
Naturally, in defending herself, Emma perfectly sums up the pressure to be perfect that affects her every day. She gets narky, cruel comments online all the time and because she’s human, it gets to her.
“I firmly believe that nothing really affects you or can really bother you if you don’t already feel that way about yourself,” Emma told USA Today.
“I’ve seen a lot of comments that say, ‘Eat a sandwich’ or ‘She looks sick.’”
And because, as we mentioned before, she’s human, she’s “been looking at myself in the mirror being mean to myself. I’m not sick. I eat sandwiches.”
The 25-year-old actress/goddess continued: “In no way is it my intention to be a bad example. That has been kind of bothering me lately. I’ve shamed myself for it. We shame each other online. We’re always too skinny or too fat or too tall or too short.”
Speaking about the people who taunt her, Emma said: “They’re just confirming this feeling I have about myself. I’m trying to figure my body out. It bothers me because I care so much about young girls. We’re shaming each other and we’re shaming ourselves, and it sucks. When I make a comment about someone or I choose to gossip about someone and speculate about their body or their life or their face, it’s usually a reflection of something I’m feeling myself.”
