'I love Emily in Paris with my whole heart, but there is one season 5 storyline I just can't watch.'

Season 5 of Emily In Paris is back and I am one happy girl. I am powerless against the lure of over-the-top fashion, aggressively American workplace antics, and Emily Cooper's truly chaotic love life. They could make 50 seasons of Emily in Paris and I'd be glued to my couch, mainlining the glorious mess.

Was this my absolute favourite season? No. Did I enjoy every single second of it? Oui.

I don't watch this show for depth, coherent storylines, or a gritty exploration of the human condition. I watch it for the vibes, baby! And this season? The vibes were absolutely there. There were certainly things I didn't enjoy but, overall, I'm happy.

Season 4 ended with Emily Cooper officially relocating to Rome to open a new office for Agence Grateau. Plus, riding off into the sunset on a Vespa with her dashing new Italian flame, Marcello.

Meanwhile, back in Paris, Gabriel was finally celebrating his Michelin star, only to realise he might have let the one slip through his fingers.

This season, expect a gorgeous "tale of two cities" as Emily navigates a more romantic, free-spirited life in Rome while enjoying a new romance with Marcello. There's plenty of high-stakes marketing drama involving Marcello's family empire and their persisting work demands in Paris.

Meanwhile, Mindy is busy juggling her singing career with a surprising new friendship with Alfie that seems to be taking an unexpected turn. The chaos is chicer and more complicated than ever.

So, how does it all fare compare to previous seasons?

First up, let's talk about the new cast members this season, because sometimes a fresh face is all you need to shake up the Parisian air. And boy did they nail the casting.

Oh, my heart, they cast Bryan Greenberg (aka One Tree Hill's Jake Jagielski, Bride Wars' Nate) as an American in Paris, and every scene he shared with Emily was pure, lovely, chemistry-filled goodness. I want more, more, more of this beautiful man and his character next season — he was a delightful addition.

And Minnie Driver as newcomer Princess Jane was the perfect amount of silly, fun, and utter comedic relief. She leaned into the absurdity, and it paid off. A queen, truly.

But the real star of season 5, as always, is the fashion. The costume designer outdid herself this season, specifically with the genius contrast between Rome Emily and Paris Emily.

The Rome fashion was brighter, romantic, more sensual and gloriously free-spirited. It felt like Emily was on a proper holiday, full of life and colour.

The Paris fashion, in contrast, feels more grounded, professional, and structured. We saw darker colours, more suits, button-ups, and ties. It's chic, it's tailored, and it's a reminder of how far Emily has come.

Speaking of impeccable fashion, that brings me to Sylvie Grateau because this woman can do no wrong — fashion or otherwise. Her entire storyline this season? Magnifique. She is the power, the elegance, and the humour this show actually needs. A true icon.

This season also sees a step away from the Gabriel and Emily romance, giving our favourite "hot chef" the chance to explore new worlds.

The fact that we see a little less of Gabriel this season is, dare I say, necessary. It gives us — and Emily — the time and space to actually miss him. I'm now finally starting to root for this couple. Plus, the man looks genuinely incredible. The hair, the tan, bring on the reformed chef!

Now, time for the things that left a bitter taste like day-old champagne.

The Alfie and Mindy storyline this season feels totally out of character for both of them, and I'm going to say it: they have zero chemistry.

It felt like the writers took two characters the audience loves individually and tried create a connection between them, thinking it would magically create a couple we'd root for. That remains to be seen.

And then there's Marcello. They spend an incredible amount of time this season talking about him, his family, and his business. And I have to ask: who is this man?! I don't know him! I don't care about his family! That's not why I'm here! Give me more Parisian drama, not random Italian business meetings! Be gone, boring, temperamental man!

While season 5 certainly made some questionable choices that had me frustrated, isn't that what we've come to expect from Emily In Paris?

Overall? It was pure, unadulterated escapism. It was colourful, it was dramatic, and it was the perfect distraction. And yes, I'm already counting down the days until they drop the next season. May this glorious show never end!
