The father of Elliott Roger has finally spoken out.

Peter Rodger and Barbara Walters

Peter Rodger, the father of Californian mass-murderer Elliot Rodger, has spoken with Barbara Walters in an exclusive interview following the aftermath of his son’s mass shooting.

Rodger, a Hollywood film director who worked on the Hunger Games, sat down with Walters to describe the “reverse nightmare” he had been living following the massacre committed by his 22-year-old son.

A clip of the interview released today shows an distraught Rodger reflecting on the fact his “son caused so much pain and suffering for so many families.”

“When you go to sleep normally you have a nightmare and you wake up and oh, everything is OK,” he told Walters.

Now I go to sleep, I might have a nice dream, and then I wake up and slowly the truth of what happened dawns on me. And that is that my son was a mass murderer.”

Rodger added he has no idea that his son was even suicidal, saying “there is no way I thought that this boy could hurt a flea. The most unbelievable thing, what I don’t get, is that we didn’t see this coming at all.”

Rodger’s son Elliot killed six people and injured thirteen at a Californian university before committing suicide in an attempt to seek revenge against women that rejected him in the past.
