When singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran first met his wife Cherry Seaborn, he was smitten. And although the pair were only in their teens and still in high school, Sheeran says he thought he and Seaborn would be good for one another.
But it would take over a decade for the two to become an item.
Now, after welcoming two children together, Sheeran has shared his wife was diagnosed with a tumour during her last pregnancy.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the 31-year-old explained he struggled with his mental health last year following a series of life-changing events, which saw him make changes to his upcoming album Subtract.
"I had been working on Subtract for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be," he began the post.
"Then at the start of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art."
Sheeran went on to say he wrote "whatever tumbled out" and in just over a week he "replaced a decade’s worth of work with my deepest darkest thoughts".
"Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth. My best friend Jamal [Edwards], a brother to me, died suddenly and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter. I was spiralling through fear, depression and anxiety," he continued.
