'I've discovered the easiest 2-minute eye makeup, and it always gets me compliments.'

If there's one thing my friends know about me, it's that I am always late for everything.

Yeah, I'm that person. Guys, I'm not proud of it. I don't do it on purpose, and I try not to. But it's just me, you know? I'm the problem, it's me, etc.

In an effort to make my life easier and myself faster, I've come up with a few ~hacks~ when I'm preparing to leave the house. Like, I choose my outfits the night before (not that revolutionary, but it works). I start getting ready two hours before (because when I leave myself an hour, I've learnt it's never enough). And I have a go-to eye makeup routine for evenings out that takes me no time at all.

Would I love to go all-out with a glam eye? Sure! Of course! Who wouldn't?! But whenever I go rogue and give it a shot, it either a) takes me longer than I anticipated, b) looks terrible, or c) both.

So I've got my going-out eye makeup down to a fine art. It's a two-product combo that never fails me, and the best part is it takes literally two minutes.

Every time I create this look, people comment. (Most recently it was some of the Mamamia girlies, as I was getting ready to go to dinner after work and needed a quick makeup zhoush.) And they're always surprised when I tell them how easy it was.

I'm not in the habit of gatekeeping, so here you have it: my two-product, two-minute makeup that literally anyone can do.

How to do easy, quick eye makeup.

At its core, this look is just eyeliner and mascara.

Simple, I know.

But the real magic lies in the very specific eyeliner — and trust me, I've tried subbing in plenty of other options and none of them live up to the look.

I'm also super-choosy about the mascara, but we'll get to that in a tick.

Another game-changing twist? Rather than the usual black mascara and liner, I use both products in shades of brown. Trust me on this one — switching to brown gives you an elevated eye without the heaviness of black, making it perfect whether you're going for a boozy brunch or a dinner date.

Aside from giving a softer look, one thing I love about using brown products is that even if there is a little smudging throughout the day/night, it looks intentionally lived-in rather than messy — something that's much harder to pull off with black products.

(No shade to black eye makeup, obviously, they're a beauty bag staple — but for me, brown is more subtle and wearable any time, day or night.)

Okay, okay get to the products already!

My ride-or-dies are MCo Beauty's Dual-Ended Pro Eyeliner in Chocolate, $16, and Covergirl LashBlast Fusion Mascara in Black-Brown, $18.99, and yes, I will tell you why.

The MCo Beauty eyeliner is basically two products in one, with a highly pigmented crayon pencil on one end and an angled brush at the other.

I use the pencil part (duh) to line my lower lash line above the lashes ('tightlining' is the term you're looking for here), and let it lightly coat the base of the lower lashes, too. Hot tip: I don't take the line all the way into the inner corner of my eye — I stop about half to two-thirds of the way in, which is a trick that makes your eyes look bigger.

Next, I flip the pencil around and use the angled brush end to softly blend the line outwards, gently running it back and forth over the line. I take it a little past the outer corner to give a mini flick, but it's so soft and subtle that it's just a suggestion, a cheeky hint of a wing. It creates a sultry lived-in effect that doesn't scream "I'm wearing eyeliner!" but still defines your peepers.

If I'm in the market for a bolder look, this look is totally buildable, too — just top with more eyeliner and smudge lightly again until you achieve your desired smoke level.

Next comes mascara, and I always always always use an eyelash curler before applying. (Plus, here's a game-changing hack: use an eyeshadow brush to dust a tiny bit of translucent setting powder over your lashes first. It sounds weird, but this trick creates the perfect base for your mascara, helping your lashes hold their curl.)

Now, I've tried a lot of mascaras (it's part of my job ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) and I just keep coming back to Covergirl Clump Crusher. The formula literally never clumps (love a product that does what it says it will), and while the bristles (are they bristles? You know what I'm talking about) on the curved spoolie are smaller than most, I'm starting to believe this is one area where bigger isn't better.

Using the 'wiggle and sweep' method — that is, wiggling the wand from side to side at the base of your lashes before sweeping upward — deposits more product at the roots, creating the illusion of thicker lashes. And friends, I must insist on two coats (waiting for the first to dry before going in again).

I also mascara up my lower lashes (yes, really), using an old trick from Zoe Foster Blake I read once. Rather than loading up your spoolie and swiping on, just use what's left on the brush after doing your top lashes. And rather than swiping the formula on, gently press it onto the roots of your lower lashes at the lash line. It just boosts the definition without adding Twiggy-esque lashes.

And that's it! The easiest, fastest eye makeup ever (according to… me).
