When Drew Barrymore caught her boyfriend cheating, she hatched a revenge plan.

We've all fantasised about getting back at a lousy ex, right? Dreamed up ways to make their life hell, or even conspired with girlfriends to plan some petty revenge?

Well, it turns out, even celebrities are not immune to that inclination.

During an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show on Monday, Barrymore shared an iconic story of retribution with her guest, Grammy-winning artist SZA.

Barrymore said that she didn't waste time wallowing when she learnt of the infidelity. Instead, she sprang into action and gave her cheating ex-boyfriend a taste of his own medicine.

"I took all of his stuff in my house and I put it all in his car and then I rolled his car down his driveway and left it there and just walked away," she told SZA.

But that was just the beginning. Barrymore got in contact with the woman her ex was cheating with.

"I made the girl he was cheating on me with meet me for drinks with him sitting there. I was like, 'You're gonna sit here and you're going to listen to the two of us talk! So shut up and listen!'

"And then I drove him home, and I looked at him and I go, 'Now get out'."

It wasn't Drew Barrymore's first 'crime of passion'.

It's not Barrymore's first act of revenge, though. She admitted to another crime of passion (well, more like youthful vengeance) when she vandalised an ex-boyfriend's car as a teenager.

She shared the story on her show last year when she revealed an ex cheated on her.

"He cheated. He deserved it," she said, adding that she spray-painted the unknown boyfriend's ride.

When he called her the next day, panicking and asking if she was responsible for the damage, Barrymore coyly denied it — but couldn't help but laugh at the memory.

Time heals all wounds — but do exes stay friends?

Despite the fiery confrontations, Barrymore explained that she and her ex went on to patch up their relationship and later became "dear friends".

"We were young and stupid. I did dumb things too," she said, reflecting on the drama from years ago.

"Later, I'm like, 'Listen, you know what, we were just kids. I made mistakes too and we're human beings. There was so much I loved about you. Can we be in each other's lives?," Barrymore said.

SZA quickly defended the younger Drew's actions, saying, "That wasn't stupid, that was fire. I'm inspired."

And when Drew mentioned "time heals" all wounds and suggested staying friends with exes, SZA wasn't buying it.

"No, it don't. Time passes, baby," she quipped with a smile, proving sometimes it's okay to hold a grudge. And honestly, we're with her on that.
