I get hot and bothered easily, so when it's humid I essentially live in little dresses around the house. I think of them like a nightie, except I feel comfortable answering the door and going to the shops in it.

I prefer them shorter, so the fabric doesn't bother me when I'm running up the stairs or doing chores. I used to avoid a mini because I don't love my knees, but when I let that hang-up go I was instantly cooler and happier. I prefer a dress over shorts and a singlet, too, because it's more breezy and easier to go to the bathroom.

Classic black is never a bad idea, especially if you are after versatility. Machine washable and great over a bra, the buttons down the front are also functional which makes it a fabulous feeding dress. It comes in sizes six to 18.

Again, this one ticks all my wish list requirements — I can wear a bra, it has pockets and it's stylish enough to wear most places. Available in sizes four to 18, you also have the option of a lighter denim and a white denim.

I actually think the surf brands like Billabong and Roxy do excellent mini dresses at great prices. This one is the sweetest lilac shade, and while it has a deeper V at the front, it zips up fully at the back so a transitional style bra can be worn.
lululemon Align Dress, $169

Everyone knows the cult Align leggings, but did you know lululemon makes a dress in the same soft-as-butter fabric? It has a shelf bra sewn into the top as well as built-in shorts which detach at the back so you can go to the bathroom easily. Plus, there are pockets.

I'm a sucker for a polkadot. Made from 100 per cent linen (AKA it's nice and breathable), this dress is smart enough to wear to lunch, with functional buttons and thick straps. Available in sizes four to 18.

Another 100 per cent linen option, I love the V neckline and the contrast detail between the body of the dress and the piped stitching. It's lined, comes in four colour combos and sizes range from six to 18.

I usually avoid sleeves when looking for a dress that's easy and breezy, but this wrap style mini dress is so loose that I don't think I'd feel suffocated by fabric. White it's white and unlined, the knit fabric ensures it's not see-through.
Kmart Sleeveless Square Neck Mini Dress, $25

I saw this dress in-store a few weeks ago and bought it immediately. The print is so nice, the straps mean I can wear a bra, and the elasticated back means it's comfy to wear throughout the month when my bust fluctuates. It also comes in a peach shade or a floral design.
