This innocent photo may have just exposed an awkward truth about Donald Trump.

We’re all probably a teeny bit unclear on precisely how tall we each stand. Because for the most part, it really doesn’t matter all that much. My employer isn’t about to fire me just because I’m not actually 5″4 (… please don’t).

But when you’re the President of the United States, it’s a whole other story. Your height is literally one of the many factors that help decide whether or not you’re fit for office.

And in an uncomfortable turn of events, Donald Trump may have just been caught fibbing about his height as he innocently stood next to Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

This photo taken during the G7 summit in Quebec has, unfortunately for Trump, gone viral. And when you stop ogling at Trudeau, you might just see why.

Trudeau, you see, is standing taller than Trump. Which is difficult to explain when Trudeau is 6″2, and Trump claims to be 6″3. At least, that figure is according to Trump’s physical exam results which were released in January this year by the White House doctor. Other than his lack of exercise, love of junk food and obsession with Diet Coke, Trump was declared to be overall in “excellent health”.

Now, critics are suggesting Trump overestimated his height so his Body Mass Index would be conveniently classified as “overweight”, not “obese”.

At 6″3 tall and weighing 239 pounds (108kg), his BMI is 29.9. Being a smidgen shorter than 6″3 would give him a BMI of more than 30, putting him in the “obese” category.

Here’s where it gets even more confusing: Trump’s New York driver’s licence stated he was 6″2. Did the 71-year-old President have a sudden… growth spurt?

Trump’s physical health has been scrutinised for the last two years, particularly after his constant attacking of the health of his former Democratic rival Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election.

This led to calls for Trump to publish his own health records, before he released a mere five-paragraph letter in November 2016 from his long-term doctor concluding simply that Trump was in terrific physical health.

This same doctor wrote a letter in 2015 claiming Trump would be the “healthiest individual ever elected to presidency” – but he later admitted this was dictated by Trump and was not his professional assessment.

So what should we make of this? Fake news – or is Trump’s proclaimed height the fake news?
