1. Donald Trump confirms he will build the wall.
In an interview with 60 Minutes, his first since winning the election, Donald Trump has insisted that he will build the wall along the US-Mexico border.
President-elect Donald Trump also said he plans to deport two to three million undocumented immigrants with criminal records from the country immediately.
“What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, where a lot of these people, probably two million, it could be even three million, we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate,” Trump said
“But we’re getting them out of our country, they’re here illegally.”
Trump told 60 Minutes that the wall which was one of his key election promises could consist of part wall and “some fencing.”
“For certain areas I would, but certain areas, a wall is more appropriate,” he said. “I’m very good at this, it’s called construction.”
2. Earthquake hits New Zealand’s South Island.
New Zealand has been hit by a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake leaving at least two people dead.
The tremor hit near Hanmer Springs some 90 kilometres from the South Island city of Christchurch at 12.02am local time.
