There are only three acceptable reasons to scream while at work.
If you spy a co-worker secretly stealing the emergency Coke you thought you had hidden at the bottom of the work fridge.
If you see a co-worker catch on fire and the people who were voted in as Fire Wardens, only because they were not smart enough to get out of it, don't react in a timely fashion.
And if you're watching the Oscars and witness what can only be described as a surprise upset of monumental proportions.
Which is exactly what happened this week when I, my co-workers, and many Oscar viewers across the world gasped in surprise when the final moments of the ceremony rolled around and Anora star Mikey Madison won Best Actress over Demi Moore for The Substance.
The Best Actress category in the 2025 Oscars race had always seemed like a lock for Demi Moore, to the point where you could script her acceptance speech in your head before she'd even had a chance to give it. Thanks to the numerous iterations of it that we've seen her tearily deliver many times during this awards season.
Last year, when the hype for Sean Baker's Anora was just starting to build, around the moment the film picked up the prestigious Palme d'Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, leading lady Mikey Madison felt like the only contender who would be clutching the Best Actress statute come Oscars night.
But then, when Hollywood's awards season really kicked into full gear in January of this year, a different success story began to rise through the ranks. Demi won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, the Critics' Choice Award for Best Actress, and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her role in The Substance.
