It's officially Sir David Beckham to you.

Take a seat because this is the best news ever… well, for David Beckham, specifically.

David Beckham has officially been knighted, finally fulfilling a lifelong goal of the football legend.

Earlier this year, it was announced the 50-year-old would be awarded the accolade for his services to sport and to charity, as part of King Charles' Birthday Honours list.

And now the moment has finally arrived.

It's officially Sir David Beckham to you.

On Tuesday local time, Beckham was accompanied by his wife, now known as Lady Beckham, and his parents, Ted and Sandra, as he took the knee in front of King Charles.

The former Manchester United and England star said he was truly humbled by the honour.

"I love our Royal Family and what it means to people, not just in Great Britain but around the world. I could never have dreamed that this would happen to me," he wrote on Instagram.

"Playing for my country will always be the proudest moment in my career… to represent England and captain my country was my dream at 7 years old.

"Football gave me everything and it also allowed me to travel from a young age. Travel opened my eyes to issues facing children around the world."

Beckham has been an ambassador for UNICEF since 2005.

He thanked his family for their unwavering support over the years.

"All I have ever wanted to do is to make my family proud," he said.

"My parents and grandparents, who were always there for me and instilled the right values of hard work and respect. My beautiful wife, who has been by my side for the last 28 years, who has been my biggest supporter and my shoulder to cry on in tough times… without her I wouldn't have had the life I have had.

"To my beautiful children, who I am so proud of and I know this is a proud and inspiring day for them as well, they are our greatest joy in life and my inspiration every single day. I love you all so much..."

For the special occasion, Beckham wore a three-piece morning suit, inspired by a similar design King Charles wore when he was younger. Beckham's fashion designer wife created the special number.

Just one family member was missing from the group shot: Brooklyn Beckham, an absence which is sure to fuel the family feud rumours.

ALL RISE FOR SIR DAVID, THEE HANDSOME FOOTBALL MAN.

The news follows Beckham missing out on being knighted at an earlier 2025 ceremony.

In December last year, King Charles awarded the highest honour of knighthoods to England football manager Sir Gareth Southgate and iconic actor Sir Stephen Fry.

But unfortunately, plain ol' David Beckham — no 'Sir' to be seen (yet!) — didn't make the 2024 cut.

More than 1,200 people from across the UK received honours in the New Year's Day list, but Beckham was not one of them.

This was something that probably stirred some feelings in the Beckham household, as the football legend has long been pining for a knighthood.

Despite already getting an OBE (that's Order of the British Empire, FYI) way back in 2003, Beckham had a lifelong obsession with becoming Sir David Beckham.

Don't know what I'm on about? Let's go back more than 10 years, because David and the royal family have a long, storied past.

The time David Beckham's very angry emails were leaked.

In 2017, Beckham's brand came undone when a series of emails from within his inner circle were leaked by investigative journalism group European Investigative Collaborations, according to The Sun.

In some of the email exchanges, Beckham was seen raging about not being knighted by the Queen.

After Beckham missed a knighthood at the Queen's New Year's Honours in December 2013, Beckham shared his candid thoughts with his press chief, Simon Oliveira.

He referred to the judging committee as "a bunch of c***s" adding that he "expected nothing less".

"Who decides on the honours??" the cologne designer continued to rant.

"It's a disgrace to be honest and if I was American I would of [sic] got something like this 10 years ago."

When Oliveira advised Beckham to stay quiet on the subject, he replied, "I agree, but it's pissed me off, those old unappreciative c***s."

Throughout the emails, it became clear that Beckham's team had made several moves during his career to make him more appealing to royals, including supporting the Stay vote in the 2014 Scottish independence referendum.

"Your support will play well with [the] establishment and in turn help your knighthood," Oliveira wrote of the gesture.

But he wasn't always welcoming to all opportunities. When asked to attend the Spanish sports awards Premios AS del Deporte in 2016, where he was being honoured, Beckham replied: "Unless it's a knighthood, f*** off."

When the emails became public, Beckham's representatives attempted to downplay their significance.

"This story is based on outdated material taken out of context from hacked and doctored private emails from a third-party server and gives a deliberately inaccurate picture," Oliveira told The Sun.

But wait, does David Beckham deserve to be knighted?

Okay, it's worth looking into whether David Beckham even had a chance of nabbing a knighthood.

If the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Andy Murray were knighted, surely one of the greatest footballers of all time would fit the bill?

Beckham has won a phenomenal six Premier League titles, including achieving the historic treble in 1998-99, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League. He was also the England captain from 2000 to 2006.

In fact, there were reports on the cusp of 2014 that Beckham was about to be knighted, but a controversy soiled the proposed plan.

The Standard reported that his knighthood was all but approved — but a last-minute intervention from the UK tax department, HMRC, poured cold water on it.

Tax officials reportedly raised a 'red flag' over Beckham's alleged participation in a controversial form of lawful tax avoidance. Following this initial roadblock, representatives from the Honours Committee reportedly engaged in discussions with Beckham's team to try to resolve the tax-related matters, but to no avail.

This report made its way to Beckham, who ranted in the leaked email, "I pay taxes and always have done so they have no right to do this…. c**ts.".

It's been more than 10 years since Beckham almost got his knighthood. Last year, he attended the first award ceremony for the King's Foundation, where Sir Rod Stewart didn't hold back.

"I am also wonderfully honoured to be a knight and, David, yours is coming soon," he quipped.

Sitting quietly in the audience, Beckham smiled and shook his head.

But now, he's finally got what he long (said he) deserved. Beckham is now Sir David Beckham and much more importantly, Victoria Beckham will now be known as Lady Victoria Beckham. That just sounds right.
