Playboy Playmate Dani Mathers faced global backlash when she shared a naked Snapchat of an unsuspecting fellow gym goer last month. And now she could face criminal charges.
According to TMZ, Los Angeles police have tracked down the woman in Mathers’ photograph, and she is willing to cooperate in the prosecution of the 29-year-old.
Los Angeles prosecutors are currently reviewing the case, according to TMZ, and if they decide to proceed, it’s likely Mathers will be accused of Dissemination of Private Images – a misdemeanour which carries a maximum penalty of six months jail.
The offensive (and potentially illegal) Snap. Images: Snapchat.
Mathers surreptitiously snapped a picture of the woman, who is reportedly aged in her 70s, while she was changing in the locker room of an LA Fitness gym. That picture was then uploaded via the social media platform with the caption: "If I can't unsee this then you can't either."
Mathers quickly deleted the image and apologised via social media last month, following widespread backlash from the press and social media users.
“There is no excuse,” she wrote on Twitter. “I understand fully the magnitude of this post that I have hurt a lot of people, women. Body shaming is not okay.”
Mathers claimed that the Snap was intended for a friend and was "accidentally" shared publicly.
Gym chain LA Fitness banned Mathers from its facilities for life, with the firm’s executive vice president of operations, Jill Greuling, calling her actions “appalling”.
Mathers was also suspended from her regular slot on a popular LA radio programme.
She has since been inactive on social media.
