The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition has only just begun and already, the show has been struck by controversy.

SAS Australia star Ant Middleton and his brother Dan were abruptly 'removed' from the reality show after just one episode.

After featuring in the Channel 10 premiere on Monday, the pair had mysteriously vanished from the show by Tuesday night.

The only explanation provided? A short voiceover from the show's host, Beau Ryan.

"Overnight, due to a breach of the code of conduct, Ant and Dan have been removed from the race," he said.

The episode then proceeded as usual and their absence wasn't addressed again.

It's safe to say that Amazing Race fans were left rather confused.

So umm, what happened? This is what Network 10 has said about a 'breach of the production's code of conduct', which occurred on a day off from filming.

"Network 10 takes the health, safety and well-being of all contestants seriously," a Network 10 spokesperson told Mamamia.

"Following a breach of the production's code of conduct by one contestant, on a day off during production, a team from The Amazing Race Australia was disqualified and swiftly sent home."

Mamamia understands that Ant Middleton was not involved in the incident, and Dan was the person who was disqualified, which ultimately ended Ant's journey on the show, too.

Now, Ant has shared his side of what happened.

"It's such a bizarre situation, as I haven't been privy to any information, as I wasn't present when a situation unfolded with my brother" he told Yahoo Lifestyle.

"Due to confidentiality, the only thing the production could tell me is that our team couldn't continue due to a situation that unfolded with my brother."

He also addressed The Amazing Race's decision to remove the Middleton brothers from promotional materials.

"I respect the production's choice to keep the edit minimal with our participation to protect their brand. Strange situation, but one that's completely out of my control and had nothing to do with [me]!"

This move came after earlier reports had claimed the brother duo were set to be kicked off the show.

Another team, social media stars Luke and 'Sassy' Scott O'Halloran (who identifies as gay), came forward with allegations against Dan surrounding a 'homophobic' incident in a hotel in Nepal.

"Dan Middleton approached us six times, making remarks and gestures that we found homophobic, offensive, intimidatory, and disturbing," the brothers told Sydney Confidential.

"Each time he (Dan) came over to us, the encounters felt increasingly more aggressive. At one point, he was right up in our faces, surrounded by some of the other cast members, who seemed to us to be as uncomfortable as we were."

The O'Halloran brothers claimed that it was AFL star, Brendan Fevola, who stepped in to defend them, going as far as delivering an ultimatum to Amazing Race producers: either they remove the Middleton brothers or he would quit.

The O'Halloran brothers have said they won't be providing further comment on the alleged incident.

The Middleton brothers' removal followed Ed Kavalee and Tiffiny Hall becoming the first Amazing Race team to be eliminated.

Along with their disqualification, Ant and Dan have since been removed from the show's opening credits.
