Charly Barby is a fan favourite in America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
And in the year since we've seen her on our screens, A LOT has happened. In the first episode of Season 2, Charley paused to take some medication.
During the first round of auditions, Charly suffered a serious medical emergency — a pulmonary embolism in her left lung, which had 'killed' part of her lung.
Right before her DCC audition, she took herself to the hospital. "It could have killed me in an instant," Charley tearfully admitted in the series.
"It switched my mindset completely. As a 23-year-old girl, you never think your life could end."
A pulmonary embolism is a blockage in one of the pulmonary arteries in the lungs, usually caused by blood clots that travel from the legs or other parts of the body. This condition can be life-threatening and often requires immediate medical attention.
After starting on blood-thinning medication, Charly began feeling a lot better and ready to continue the audition process for DCC.
She eventually shared the news with her followers on Instagram, sharing a video that detailed how she had gotten home from a birthday holiday to Hawaii when she had a high fever for 15 days in a row.
Doctors initially misdiagnosed her with the flu, and as weeks went by, she ended up barely being able to walk as her body became swollen.
Then she woke up with one side of her body in excruciating pain. She still went ahead with dance training that day, but noticed she was short of breath and her rib cage and back were aching.
