At some point in our adult lives we’ve all reverted to child-like behaviour, like chucking a tanty or wishing our mothers still fed us every night. Lord knows we have. But Stanley has taken things a step further.
Stanley is a 30-year-old male from California, his flatmate, Sandra Dias essentially acted as his mother before she passed away earlier this year. He sleeps in a cot, eats from a highchair, wears nappies and plays with lego.
Sandra and Stanley ran an adult baby internet support group and built custom-made baby furniture that could support Stanley’s weight.” Their support group catered for bed wetters, Adult Babies (AB), Teen Babies (TB) and Diaper Lovers (DL). It included an area where these groups could ‘Find a Mommy’ and have their questions answered. Questions like “How do I tell my mom I wet the bed?”, “What kind of diaper should I use?” and “Is formula safe for adult’s to drink?”
Why does any adult revert to this type of behaviour? It’s hard to say. In Stanley’s case it stems from the abuse he experienced as a child. According to one media report, Stanley’s “return to childhood began at fourteen-years-old as a way of coping when he started wetting the bed after being abused as a boy”.
