Alyssa Bordelon is not about to be shamed by a viral selfie taken in her messy bedroom – in fact, she’s trying to cash in on it.
The college student from Louisiana, USA, tweeted a selfie of her dress late last year that was later re-tweeted more than 4000 times and liked over 8000 times.
There was a tiny problem, though – Twitter users weren’t commenting on her dress, but the state of her “rat-infested” dirty room.
Now, the young woman is trying to make the most of her new-found “internet fame” and crowdsource $13,600 (USD$10,000) to rectify the issue.
Alyssa wrote on her GoFundMe page “Pay My Tuition and I’ll Clean My Room” that she is too busy to pick up after herself, and if she could raise the money she would quit her second job and spend the time cleaning instead.
“Many of you have expressed concerns with the state of my apartment,” she wrote.
“I hear them. However, being an adult with adult expenses, it is sometimes difficult to find time to give attention to less pressing needs.
“I have a full-time job and a part-time job, and I attend college full time.”
While admitting she is being opportunistic, the woman made her case.
“This new internet fame I have encountered has given me a unique opportunity to make the most of my time,” she wrote.
“If I reach my goal ($10,000 = 1 year of tuition at my school), I will quit my second job and devote my life to cleanliness.”
Surprisingly, the venture is not going well.
Yesterday Alyssa had raised just $65 on GoFundMe, with many commenters criticising her for trying to capitalise on her notoriety.
“You don’t need to go anywhere to have an excuse to clean your room, that’s for sure,” wrote one user. “If you spend (sic) the same amount of time taking pics and replying to each and every comment, the room would be clean by now, lol.”
What’s your opinion on Alyssa trying to capitalise on her 15 minutes of fame?
