When I first met my husband, he was very far from being the man of my dreams.
Don’t worry, I’ve told him this. I wasn’t his idea of the perfect partner either.
We figured we’d date for a little while and then break up and move on to other, more suitable types.
But…. Then we spent some time together. And some more time together. And then, well, you know how this story goes.
He had two boys from his first marriage, and every weekend we’d take them rock climbing, jet skiing, bush walking, rollerblading and lots of other activities I absolutely hated.
So when I think about the craziest thing I’ve ever done for love, I immediately picture myself hanging from that plastic cliff face- scared, sweating and with aching arms while my future husband and his very active boys cheered me on.

I had a feeling I wasn’t the only one to have done something crazy for love. So I threw it out to all our writers across the Mamamia Women’s Network and it turns out I was right.
“I hate the cold and physical exertion but I did a 10-day trek in Nepal because it meant a lot to my partner. I threw up the whole way but it was worth it.”- Alexis
“I told my husband I loved him after about two weeks. It was a big risk but he was moving overseas for a year and I wanted to get it off my chest before he left. He didn’t say it back right away (ouch) but he ended up coming back from his trip after four weeks and we moved in together the week he got home. That was over 10 years ago.”- Jacqui
“I spent two years spending all my money on overseas trips to see the guy I was dating in the US. Waste of time and money.”- Jane

“When my fiancé moved into my house I let him bring his 2.5m pet python. We’re in our 40s and everyone has baggage – most have an ex-wife and two kids – so really, a snake is an easy option. Plus, when it dies I can turn it into baggage. Or shoes!” – Shelly
