Cheating scandals and WAG feuds: Inside Wayne and Coleen Rooney's very public marriage.

Coleen Rooney provided the internet with one of its favourite stories of all time this week, when she posted a lengthy tweet outing her now former friend and fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy for leaking stories about her life to British tabloid The Sun.

This story was so large that both Rebekah and Coleen’s names were for a time searched more WORLDWIDE than Brexit. BREXIT WE TELL YOU.

It was wild.

Another WAG Danielle Lloyd says she’s had similar run-ins with Rebekah Vardy. Post continues below video.

There’s since been a denial from Rebekah, a statement from The Sun which is refusing to reveal its ‘source’, ridiculous trending hashtag #WagathaChristie and memes. So many memes.

A quick bit of… context:

Coleen is an author/TV personality and wife of former England captain Wayne Rooney. Rebekah is a nightclub promoter and wife of English and Leicester player Jamie Vardy.

Coleen accused her former friend of giving information about her, her friends and her family to the tabloid without her knowledge or consent.

While we don’t know exactly what information it was Rebekah allegedly leaked, just a quick search of ‘Coleen Rooney’ on The Sun‘s website shows that there has certainly been a lot to say.

And a lot of it centred on her relationship with long-time partner Wayne Rooney.

Wayne and Coleen, both 33, met when they were just 12 years old and began dating aged 16.

The scandals surrounding their relationship began when both were still teenagers when Wayne - who was already an international football star - was reported to be meeting with sex workers and frequenting a brothel as many as 10 times, something backed up by CCTV.

"Foolish as it now seems I did on occasions visit massage parlours and prostitutes," he said in a 2004 statement addressing the reports.

"I now regret it deeply and hope people may understand that it was the sort of mistake you make when you are young and stupid. It was at a time when I was very young and immature and before I had settled down with Coleen."

Coleen and Wayne married in Portofino, Italy, in 2008 after six years of dating and a year later, Coleen gave birth to their first child, Kai Wayne Rooney, now nine.

But it was while Coleen was pregnant that Wayne was caught cheating again with a £1,000-a-night sex worker, who he met seven times in four months and took on dates to bars, clubs and casinos.

Coleen did not discover the betrayal until 2010, after Kai's birth. She and the newborn moved out of their shared home, but soon after she took him back.

In 2013, she gave birth to their second son, Klay, and in 2016 they welcomed their third Kit.

In August 2017, Wayne was caught drink-driving while Coleen and their three children were away on the Spanish island of Majorca.

His passenger in the vehicle was "party girl" Laura Simpson and the pair were supposedly heading to her home. The world put two and two together and once again, the footballer was forced to explain his infidelity.

Coleen, who gave birth to fourth son Cass in February 2018, would have been around three months pregnant at the time.

In November 2017, Coleen addressed the latest betrayal in a Facebook post, addressing head-on the gossip that would have swirled when paps noticed she had put her wedding ring back on and chosen to stay with her high-profile husband.

“Before all the stories begin, Yes, I have put my wedding ring on…” she began.

Coleen said it hadn't felt right wearing her ring in the months since Wayne's latest indiscretion was made public. However, she didn't want anyone to feel sorry for her.

"Please don't. I appreciate getting cared about, however, I am a strong person, I don't feel sorry for myself.

"Also, a few people are probably thinking I am stupid for staying in my marriage. I am not stupid, I know my own mind and it's something I want to try and work on."

Coleen said she gave this preemptive defence because she knew there had been many stories about her in the media, and wanted people's opinions of her to be "based on true facts".

"Remember we are people, we have feelings, and as I always say to my children .... don't do or say to others what you wouldn't like done or said to yourself or your loved ones," she said, before addressing her "so-called friends" who spoke to the press.

"Also, I really hope the money that people got paid for their say has really benefited both you and your families."

Coleen said her husband was a "brilliant dad", who had made "silly and selfish mistakes", some that "he's learnt from, some obviously not".

This year, after moving to the United States to take up a place in the D.C United Football team, Wayne hit the headlines for his boozy behaviour.

The Mirror reported he took part in a 10-hour drinking session with a barmaid in Florida in February, and in August, Wayne was pictured in a hotel lobby in Vancouver, following a mystery brunette into the lift. Coleen was back in the UK at the time.

All the while, Coleen was also planting traps to catch whoever was leaking stories about her and her family to the media.

"I blocked everyone from viewing my Instagram stories except ONE account," she said in her lengthy statement this week.

"Over the past five months I have posted a series of false stories to see if they made their way into The Sun newspaper. And you know what, they did!"

These fake stories included that she and Wayne's new home had flooded and that she was so desperate for a daughter, after the couple had four sons, that she was considering attempting gender selection in Mexico.

Wayne has not publicly acknowledged his wife's accusation that Rebekah Vandy leaked information about their relationship and family to The Sun, instead choosing to ignore the story to post about World Mental Health Day on Instagram.
