A retail worker shares the extremely petty revenge she took on a rude customer at Christmas.

Ahh Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year.

…Unless you work in retail. In which case it is quite easily the worst time of the year.

A time of year which might even make you despise the human race altogether.

You work the public holidays, you’re constantly run off your feet and everybody’s stressed, rude and demanding. Especially the customers.

But it’s not like hospitality where you can simply mess with a rude patron’s food if they arc up at you (I mean, what? We would never condone anything like that).

So how do fed-up retail workers get their revenge?

Well, here’s a little inspiration thanks to a former retail employee who executed quite possibly the best petty revenge plot we’ve ever heard, and that, rightly so, the internet is obsessed with.

There are two types of Christmas people. which one are you? Post continues after video.

Enter: The Star of Vengeance, a dish served cold by Sarah Bélanger Demaneuf.

Seventeen years ago, US woman Sarah was working at a retail store when she encountered a particularly difficult customer.

She’s posted the full story, in all its glory, to Facebook and well, we’ll just let you read it for yourself:

“I just can’t get into the holiday spirit until I post this. Have a vengeful Christmas y’all!!” she began.

“This is my favourite Christmas ornament, but rather than symbolise peace and goodwill, as it should, it symbolises vengeance and spite,” she posted with a picture of a gold star Christmas ornament.

“I was working at a local retail store after Christmas and all of our ornaments were reduced to 75 per cent off. This little star was .50 cents. A terrible woman (dressed to the nines and driving a high-end Lexus, so pretty well off) came into the store and wanted 4 star ornaments, but wanted to only pay .25 cents a piece.

“As we weren’t at a yard sale I said no and she started arguing with me, becoming increasingly rude and belligerent. After not bullying me into caving she said, ‘Fine! My friend works at the other store in Huntsville and she told me that all the ornaments will be 90 per cent off tomorrow, so I’ll just come back in the morning.'”

“‘I can’t guarantee they’ll still be here,’ I said. And the jerk said, ‘There are 12 in the store. No one is going to buy all 12. I’ll get what I want, prepare to feel stupid tomorrow.'”

Little did the woman know, her defiant statement would soon inspire the greatest retail revenge plot the internet has ever seen.

“In an anti Grinch moment my heart shrank 3 sizes and I bought all 12 star ornaments,” Sarah revealed.

“I then called the other Huntsville store and bought ALL their ornaments. And just to be extra spiteful I bought all the star ornaments in Decatur and Florence. It was the most vengeful $30 I ever spent,” she added.

“The next morning she was at the store as soon as we had opened. I had the pleasure of telling her that ALL of the star ornaments in North Alabama had been sold to one customer. The look on her face was worth every penny spent.”

So what did Sarah do with the pile of Christmas ornaments she had acquired?

“For years I gave the ornaments to friends and family, but I saved just one for myself.

“17 years later, I still smile when I hang it on my tree.”

Sarah, you just might be our new favourite person.
