Exactly what to buy your dad for Christmas (when he already has everything).

"Don't get me anything."

It's the response my dad gives me when I ask him what he wants for Christmas. Every. Single. Year.

At first, I ignored his annual request and continued to buy him gifts. Then one year, I listened.

And let's just say the year I chose to honour his request to go giftless, it went down like a lead balloon. Because when Christmas Day rolled around and he realised there were no colourful little packages with his name on them under the tree, the look on his face was not mad… just disappointed.

So to avoid breaking any more paternal hearts on December 25, I've compiled a list of gifts guaranteed to get the tick of approval from even the fussiest of fathers.

From event tickets to practical passes and products to elevate his everyday routines, here's what to get the father figure in your life for Christmas this year.

Tickets to an above-par event.

For dads who already have everything and love to get amongst some sporting action, Christmas is all about giving them incredible experiences, like tickets to LIV Golf Adelaide.

This international tournament, awarded 'The World's Best Golf Event' in 2023 and 2024, returns to Adelaide this summer from February 14 to 16, with tickets starting at just $72.

With non-stop golfing action, 54 of the world's best players on the scene, delicious food and drink and headline music acts like Dom Dolla on the main stage — it's a real hole-in-one event. And if you want to elevate his experience, ticket upgrades are available with hospitality and VIP options available too.

Okay, now to address the elephant in the room: your dad might not be from South Australia. If that's the case, encourage his mates' kids to buy their dad tickets too. Then the fellas can plan a ripper weekend getaway together. How good.

Custom merch with your face all over it.

Sometimes you need to step things up and get something custom-made. So why not embrace your main-character energy (and his) by gifting him a shirt with your gorgeous face plastered all over it?

Starting at $49.95, Threadheads are experts at crafting your very own bootleg family merch. If you have siblings, you could give him one of each for added trolling or include one featuring the family pet.

They're unique, practical and guaranteed to have everyone howling with laughter when he unwraps it on Christmas morning.

Annual national park pass.

Got a dad who loves a scenic Sunday drive or bushwalk? There's simply no better gift than an annual pass to his state's national parks for that kinda guy.

With this precious pass proudly planted on the car dashboard, he can say goodbye to the annoying admin of sorting out entry fees each time he wants to venture into nature.

Here's where you can buy a pass for Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory, ACT, Western Australia or Tasmania national parks. Prices vary depending on the state, but it really is the gift that keeps on giving.

Elevated shaving products.

I'm a firm believer that some of the best gifts elevate daily rituals, which makes Aesop's range of shaving care products a no-brainer.

Pick and choose products to build a kit that'll enhance your dad's routine, like a new shaving brush ($79), razor ($130), or a little skin nourishment in the form of the Moroccan Neroli Post-Shave Lotion ($69) or the Moroccan Neroli Shaving Serum ($51).

Have a crew of siblings all chipping in for one big gift? The Complete Shaving Care Kit ($353) has all of you covered.

Unlimited audio escapism.

Staying on the theme of boosting his daily habits, you can make the daily commute something he looks forward to with a subscription to Audible.

Whether he's into memoirs from his musical idols, self-help handbooks or pure fantasy escapism, a subscription to Audible has something for every reader (or should we say, listener).

Plus, subscriptions start from as little as $16.95 per month, so you can tailor the length of his gifted subscription to suit his reading appetite and your budget — a win-win.

Coffee accoutrements.

Remember that thing I said about buying gifts that enhance his everyday routines? If your dad's a caffeine fiend (like mine), something to make his morning cuppa even more enjoyable will go down a treat.

For a man on the go, you can't go past this frank green Ceramic Coffee Cup with a hinged lid ($46.95). It comes in 12 different colours, and for an extra $9.95, you can get his initials monogrammed.

If the whole family is pitching in, this colourful French Press ($150) from HAY is a surefire way to brighten his mornings. Or if he prefers a stovetop brew, get the gang together and grab him an Alessi Espresso Maker ($155).
