A three-year-old girl is in a critical condition in hospital after she was found hanging by her neck from a swing in north Queensland.
The child’s mother found her daughter hanging in what is believed to be a tragic playground accident.
Paramedics were called to a family property at Koumala, 60 kilometres south of Mackay at about 5.30pm yesterday.
A RACQ CQ Rescue spokesperson said the girl apparently became tangled in a swing set while she was playing.
“The child was believed to be playing on a swing set as her mother tended to animals on the property,” the statement said.
“When the mother returned to check on the child, she found her daughter hanging with the swing rope around her neck and not breathing.”
The spokesperson said it was believed CPR was performed on the child and a pulse returned before an ambulance crew arrived on the scene.
She was flown to Mackay Base Hospital before being taken to Townsville Hospital at midnight, where she remains in a critical condition.
