The Find: The $15 pencil that does the job of five products.

I’m a massive hoarder when it comes to makeup. So when a multi-purpose product comes along that lightens my bag even a little bit, I embrace it wholeheartedly.

And when it costs just $15, as the Chella ivory lace highlighter pencil from Bellabox, does? I have to share it with as many people as I possibly can.

On first glance, it looks rather ordinary. It’s a chubby nude pencil – how exciting can it really be? Just you wait.

Marketed as a highlighter pencil (that’s made in the same factory as Chanel beauty products, just FYI), it’s extremely versatile. So versatile in fact, it can probably replace at least five products you currently have in your makeup bag. Here’s how to use it.

1. Eye liner

Not had half as much sleep as you’d like? Lining the rims of your eyes with a nude-coloured eyeliner is the perfect trick for brightening eyes and making you look at least half awake.

It's much softer and more natural looking than using white eyeliner, and the Chella pencil is so creamy it's a dream to blend.

2. Under-eye concealer

If you've got fair skin like me then the pencil also doubles as a handy concealer - especially for the under eye area.

Simply draw an upside down triangle under your eye and blend with either a brush or even your fingers. (Post continues after gallery.)

Because the pencil is so soft creamy, you can draw and blend as you would liquid without worrying about it dragging the sensitive under-eye skin. Just be gentle.

3. Brow highlighter

Once you've spent all that time filling in your brows, you're going to want to highlight them as much as possible -which is where the Chella pencil comes in. Simply draw an angled line underneath the brow (following the strong line you've just created) then blend downwards and outwards.

The subtle highlighting effect will add that extra definition to make your brows look super polished.

4. Illuminator

If your skin is feeling a little dull, using this under your foundation is a great way to add a natural-looking glow.

Simply mix with your foundation, or draw a few squiggles on your forehead, nose, upper cheeks and chin and softly blend out. Then apply your foundation as normal.

5. Eyeshadow primer

One of my favourite uses for the pencil is as an eye shadow primer. Simply colour your entire lid in and then layer with your chosen eyeshadow(s).

Not only does it help to neutralise the colour and create an even base, it also gives the eyeshadow pigments something to hang onto, meaning it will last longer and look stronger.

6. Contour

If contouring has always bemused you, the Chella pencil also offers a simple way to ease into the trend. Used as a pair with the Chella cinnamon highlighter (also $15), it's a fantastic quick contouring palette in pencil form.

Simply suck your cheeks in to find the hollow of your cheekbone and draw a thin, soft line of cinnamon highlighter, stopping just past the outer corner of your eye. (Post continues after gallery.)

Then draw a slightly longer line with the ivory lace pencil on your cheekbone. Then blend out (best results with a brush, but if you're in a real rush you can use your fingers) for the ultimate in lazy contouring.
