It’s the question so many of us have asked. What makes someone stray?

One brave Reddit user posted a thread asking this very question, and a whole host of cheaters came online to share their story.

The answers are varied, everything from “she didn’t respond to my texts” to “boredom.”

'Romantic. Sort of. Not really.'

"I ask myself this a lot. Almost as much as I ask myself why I stay with her. I had plans to marry this girl, to raise a family with her, to grow old and see the world with her.

"Somewhere along the line the fire between us dwindled to a spark. I did my best to add more to it. I would take her out to nice places. Dinner, a movie, a show, or to see beautiful sights in our state. She loved the experiences and loved the views. But she never loved me again. I could see it in her eyes. I could feel it in the way she touched me. In the way she said my name like it had no meaning or warmth in the voice.

"She would never admit it because we met in different points in our lives that were difficult. Me dealing with family problems and seeing a doctor for my depression. Her with pressure from her family to succeed in life. We became each others anchors that tied us to the earth keeping us level headed. I think she is scared that if she leaves me I would hurt myself in someway. But I won't. Not anymore. And the only reason I stay is because she's the woman I do and still love. But I am still human. I have needs. I have wants. I have desires for flesh and for affection.

"So if I have to satisfy myself through other means then I will. Even if none of it feels as good as when it is with her."

'She's not who I thought she was.'

"When I proposed to her she was the wildest woman I'd ever dated, after we got married she turned into June Cleaver."

'Body image disrupts our sex life.'

"We met and fell in love overseas. We live on the beach front and we do cute couple things like sport and arts and junk. What I didn't realise, because I was so young and new to it all, is that two tops don't work so well in a monogamous relationship.

"I tried to change and force myself in to believing I was a bottom, but I honestly didn't enjoy it.

"He refuses to change, and has some stomach problems, so I don't even want to go there. He doesn't even give bj's, and due to self image problems, he's a large man, not huge by any standards that he can't get over, he doesn't want to do anything. He's a bear type if ya'll know what that is, and I freaking love bears, but he doesn't want to be one.

"I see him on a daily basis jacking it to porn and that makes me feel worse.

"I'm kinky as f*ck and he won't indulge me in any of it.

"We are great together on everything, but that aspect. To ignore it for so long made me cranky, depressed, angry, spiteful, resentful, all those bad emotions.

"I asked him one day if he would ever get angry if I had sex with another guy. He, in a non-committal way, said maybe.

"So I acted on it, I cheated, I'm fairly happy. I feel I'm mature enough not to get attached to hookups and I'm free to explore and be satisfied.

"He seems more happy with little to no sex and jerking it and we get on fine. I don't tell him about any of my escapades ever."

'I just don't love them anymore.'

"Because I don't love her anymore but I didn't find someone better for a relationship yet and I don't like being alone."

'Medications affect us both.'

"She started an antidepressant and so sex was not exciting for her, so it was not exciting for me, so I found someone who enjoyed life!"

'Not into kinky things Anymore.'

"I dunno if I'd call it cheating, because we have an open relationship, but as for why it's open? Mostly for my benefit, her admission.

"She was a bit of a kinkster in her 20s and pretty much got to experience the world sexually, and now she's mellowed out a lot. Whereas I've sorta been pretty reserved with regards to that and now I'm opening up and wanting to try new things and experience new people that I haven't experienced before, even things she may not be into.

"Plus, she was thinking if we get married and such, it keeps us out of DeadBedrooms if one of us just ain't feeling like having fun as much."
