Charlize Theron adopts a baby girl.

Charlize Theron holds family very close to her heart and has always felt very strongly about the idea of adopting children. She said as much to Australian women’s magazine Madison, “I always knew I would adopt. Always.” The award-winning actress, 39, adopted her son Jackson in 2012, who is now three years old, and has decided to adopt a little girl. And her name is timely considering the new month we’re now in.

Charlize has been liaising with an adoption agency in the United States, where she gained custody of the newborn, and promptly adopted her soon after. In July. Not August.

It’s a piece of very good news considering the actress broke off her engagement to Sean Penn, 54, just last month. An insider told US Weekly that Charlize simply stopped taking Sean’s calls and “completely cut him off”, but these rumours have not been confirmed by either of the pair. The two were planning to adopt a new child together, but it seems Charlize is more than happy to fulfil that dream on her own.

Either way, the joy of bringing a new child into her family of two has clearly delighted Charlize. She told British Vogue, “I’ve always been very honest in saying I wanted a family. I’ve always known I wanted a family. [I hope] to be like my mom. Fair, tough, and supportive. Our family is everything. Her greatest skill was encouraging me to find my own person and own independence.”

Charlize does admit now that she's grateful to have waited to have children. "I do know that choosing to be a mum in my late 30s has been really great for me,” she said. “It’s given me perspective.”

And she doesn't seem fazed to be raising two young children on her own. "You know, I don't think any mother aims to be a single mum. I didn't wish for that, but it happened," she told Madison.
