Carri Kessler was just like any expectant parent.
She wanted to find the perfect name to suit her new baby girl coming into the world.
Talking to USA’s Today, Carri said that it was after a meeting a friend called Ottilie that she settled on the name for her daughter.
“I have a friend in the U.K. named Ottilie and it’s beautiful, and ever since I heard that name I’ve wanted to use it,” Carri said.
So, when her daughter was born, she called her Ottilie.
But, uh, Ottilie didn’t exactly last the distance.
Holly Wainwright and Andrew Daddo discuss Ottilie’s name change on This Glorious Mess:
In fact, as soon as people starting saying her name, Carri wanted to go back on it.
“So, we’re in the hospital and we’re just not saying it. We started Googling other names that we should use — like, ‘Is she Hazel? I don’t know!'”
Despite the mad search for new names, Carri decided to keep going.
Stick with the name. It’ll get better, right?
The short answer: no.
She realised she only liked the name in the British accent, not in the American accent where she was from.
And, on top of that, her own grandmother couldn’t even remember Ottilie’s name.
Check out the baby names that were predicted for 2016. (Post continues after gallery.)
