The Census has found the 'typical' Australian. We just have one question.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has collated the data gathered from the 2016 Census and released a snapshot of the ‘typical’ Australian.

Are you ready?

The typical Australian is said to be a 38-year-old woman who was born here, whose parents were born here, and who has English ancestry.

She is married, has two kids and has completed Year 12. She lives in a three-bedroom house with two cars and completes around five to 14 hours of domestic work per week.

It sounds like they just found Kath from Kath and Kim, but that might just be me.

The typical Australian male is 37 years old and spends less than five hours a week on domestic work.

We'll call him David. (Davo.)

The above snapshot of Kath and Davo is 'typical' for the whole of the country, but not for individual states.

The typical Australian may live in a three bedroom home, but the typical Western Australia resident lives in one with four. The typical Australian may own their home with a mortgage, but the typical Northern Territory resident rents.

The results of the typical Australian are particularly interesting when you consider how many people weren't able to submit their data due to the site crashing.

Thousands of Australians reported they were unable to complete the Census last year due to the site going down almost immediately after it went live.

The typical Australian, or those I know, received a paper copy a short while later and then used it to begin a recycling pile.

Twitter is having a field day mocking the findings in light of last year's events.

One user said the typical Australian is a 38-year-old mother of two because only 38-year-old mothers were smart enough to do their Census early enough to avoid the crash.

Another had a much darker outlook for the life of 38-year-old Kath.

Other users have simply commented on how the typical Australian was typically prevented from completing the survey.

One user even pointed out how poor phrasing has left the Census with time travelling British migrants.

The information released today is just an initial look at the information gathered by last year's Census. The ABS will release further information from June 27 onwards.
