You're not imagining things, there's a reason why so many celebrity couples are breaking up.

It's not just you, it feels like a celebrity breakup is happening every other day right now.

From Jessica Alba and Cash Warren to Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber, the list of celeb splits is expanding in 2025. But why is it that celebrity breakups always come in batches?

Just today, People Magazine confirmed that Jessica Simpson and her husband Eric Johnson are separating after 10 years of marriage.

"Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage," Simpson said in a statement.

"Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."

One of the most talked-about splits this year has been Jessica Alba and Cash Warren, who have reportedly broken up after 16 years together. Their love story has been a bit of a departure from the typical Hollywood narrative.

Jessica famously got engaged to her Dark Angel co-star Michael Weatherly, but instead of living out a traditional celebrity romance, she stepped away from the limelight, built a thriving lifestyle empire, and married Cash in 2008, who isn't an actor himself.

In recent years, Jessica has been open about navigating what she called a "roommate stage" in their marriage. In January, TMZ reported that the couple had separated and were heading for divorce after 16 years of marriage.

Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber's breakup also caught the public's attention, with fans still reeling from his high-profile split from Vanessa Hudgens. Their relationship seemed to evolve quickly, but just like many relationships in the spotlight, it ended unexpectedly.

The couple first met in December 2021 when they were spotted attending a yoga class together in Los Angeles, one month after Gerber's split from Jacob Elordi.

They officially confirmed their relationship by attending a W Magazine party together in March 2022. This month, it was announced they had ended their relationship in late 2024.

Another notable separation was Naomi Osaka, who announced her breakup from Cordae, after five years together and the birth of their child.

Naomi and Cordae first met at a Los Angeles Clippers game in early 2019. Their first official date was also at a Clippers game, where they had to use FaceTime to find each other in the arena.

The couple began dating secretly in early 2019, keeping their relationship private for almost a year before going public. In July 2023, they welcomed their daughter Shai, but in late 2024, breakup rumours started to circulate before the split was confirmed by the couple on Instagram.

"No bad blood at all, he's a great person and an awesome dad," Osaka wrote. "Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together."

To round out the Hollywood splits, Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford's marriage has come to a sudden end.

They started dating when they first met in 2003 at Lucky Strike bowling alley in Los Angeles, where Routh was working as a bartender. They were married in 2007 at El Capitan Ranch in Santa Barbara, and welcomed their son, Leo James, in August 2012.

Earlier this month, Ford filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences". The couple made their public announcement via a joint Instagram statement.

"After 21 years together, and 17 years of marriage, we have decided to begin a new journey, and enter this next chapter of life as friends and co-parents. We are now and forever rooting for each other as we move through this wild adventure called life. Our son is, and will always be, our highest priority."

Then over in the reality TV world, a number of breakups have rocked fans. In the UK, beloved couple Love Island's Zara McDermott and Made In Chelsea's Sam Thompson have ended their five-year relationship.

The couple met in 2019 with their relationship playing out on MIC and their hilarious antics making them popular on Instagram.

Then over in the US, the Bravo-verse was shaken by Summer House's Paige DeSorbo announcing on her popular podcast Giggly Squad that she had ended her three-year romance with Southern Charm's Craig Conover.

So, why are so many celebrity relationships and marriages ending this year?

Well, in reality, it's no coincidence that multiple high-profile breakups are announced around the same time. Publicists in the entertainment industry often manage multiple clients, and when several celebrities within their roster are facing similar situations, they may coordinate the release of those announcements. By releasing them in batches, it softens the public reaction and reduces the focus on each individual story.

"They'll batch them together and release them in one go," The Spill's Laura Brodnik said. "They do it over Christmas because over summer holidays, newsrooms are slower… now not as much as the stories take on a new life online."

In some cases, it's a way to control the media cycle, ensuring that one breakup doesn't dominate the headlines for too long. By announcing multiple celebrity splits at once, they diffuse the intensity of each story, keeping the focus spread out instead of allowing a single breakup to capture the media spotlight for an extended period.

In an industry where privacy is hard to come by, celebrities often rely on publicists to help them navigate the storm of media attention.

And while we may never know all the details behind each split, it's clear that the timing of these splits is anything but a coincidence.
