20 celebrities share the one iconic red carpet look they desperately regret.

If I were to look back on every outfit I've ever worn, I might recoil into a cringe spiral, never to recover.

However, one thing that keeps the brain worms away is knowing that most of these fashion abominations are tightly bound in my memories only. But for celebrities, one misstep on the red carpet lasts forever… or at the very least, is immortalised on the pages of Getty for all to see.

While I think of every bad sartorial choice as an opportunity to stop, listen and learn, there are certain celebrities who look back on their red carpet moments and hang their heads in shame.

Nicole Kidman.

Despite being regulars in the front row at Fashion week and icons of the red carpet, even the greatest actresses have erred once or twice.

Speaking to W Magazine, Nicole Kidman opened up about one of the looks she regrets the most.

She said, "My mama thought I had many bad red carpet looks. I remember wearing a headdress once to the Golden Globes. I didn't know what I was doing.

"Got to have a few train wrecks!" she joked.

Kidman was likely referring to her 2004 Golden Globes look, where she wore a sequin cut-out dress with bold 'past the belly button' neck plunge and flapper-style headband.

The midi-length dress ended in a flouncy skirt and she paired it with a short, platnium-blonde curly bob.

Kaley Cuoco.

When Kaley Cuoco was starring in The Big Bang Theory, it was the highest-rating show on television, which meant she was hitting red carpets left, right and centre. And one of those red carpet looks is still haunting her. She told PEOPLE, her styling choices for the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards went awry when she wore a wig.

"I still think this is the worst thing I've ever done. I added a hairpiece, but it was bangs," she said. "Literally, I look at pictures and I'm like, 'That was the worst decision I have ever made.' It just did not work. It looked so fake."

Nick Jonas.

Remember the chokehold Ed Hardy had on us all in 2009? Nick Jonas certainly does.

He told Racked he used to step out on red carpets absolutely dripping in Ed Hardy clothing and regrets every minute of it. He said they "had the hat, and the T-shirt, and the shoes — and the jeans, if you were lucky. Head to toe. Dark times. But we gotta go through the fire to come out knowing what to wear without looking insane."

Christian Wilkins.

These days Richard Wilkins' offspring is making a name for himself as one of Australia's most fashionable celebrities.

But in order to gain his place at the top he said he had to make a couple of red carpet mistakes. "The one that comes to mind most obviously is my very first ARIAs, it was 2013," Wilkins recalled.

"I had just gotten back from Schoolies that day," he recalled during an interview on the I've Got News For You podcast. "I had pink hair with feathers in it. And I wore what someone online described as an 'acid poo' coloured suit. And this blue, Hermes belt and these brown shoes.

"Like, ghastly. But I thought that I was poppin'."

Heidi Klum.

She may be one of the most stunning women in the world with access to the best stylists in the industry but even Heidi Klum has her days. In an interview with Daily Pop she remembered a look she debuted on the 2008 Oscars red carpet that she has some regrets about.

"I love this dress. What I don't love is my gigantic bun. I had this hairdresser at the time, and I was like, 'This bun is too big.' And she was like, 'No, I love this bun. It has to be bigger,'" she said.

"When I went to the Oscars and people were talking about this, and they're like, 'Yeah, this bun,' and I'm like, 'You know, the Oscars are long. I have all sorts of snacks in there.' So, I was just making fun of it."

Bella Hadid.

While not directly a red carpet 'regret' Bella Hadid has one particular instance that stands out for other reasons. The supermodel said she felt uncomfortable and not herself on the red carpet of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

"I was very nervous in this dress. I look very sexual," she told Vogue. "I kind of get embarrassed about this moment still even though the dress is gorgeous. It just, again, doesn't feel so much like me and I think this was the start of the Bella persona that everyone sees in me."

David Beckham.

We've all taken a walk down memory lane thanks to the BECKHAM documentary on Netflix. The uber-famous couple have been responsible for some of the most iconic fashion serves in recent history but David doesn't remember all of the looks fondly.

"Me and Victoria wore matching black leather outfits once," he said in an interview with H&M magazine in 2012. "They were Versace. But that's one when I look back and am like, 'What were we thinking?'"

Selena Gomez.

Growing up in the spotlight cannot be an easy thing to do especially when you are still trying to figure out your style. Selena Gomez remembers the first few red carpets she hit as a fledgling teen and cringes.

"I remember going on my first red carpet with skinny jeans and sneakers like, awesome, this is not a look that I would do ever again. I feel like when I wore sneakers and a lot of jeans to red [carpets], my stylist was really mortified," she told Hollywood Life in 2013. "Never again!"

Diane Kruger.

Most people would regard German-born actress Diane Kruger as their style icon. But despite this, she still looks back on her appearance on the 2005 Golden Globe Awards red carpet with regret.

"I love Marchesa, I love [designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig] and I don't know why we talked ourselves into this dress," she said in an interview with InStyle in 2014. "It was gold and my belly was exposed, but I decided to do retro hair, I had a short bob then. It was not a good look, and I think that will be remembered."

Ashley Tisdale.

Disney alum Ashley Tisdale is another actress who has grown up on red carpets. When recalling her outfit on the 2004 red carpet of The Incredibles premiere she told PEOPLE Style she regrets wearing the "really weird pink camo skirt and this pink furry thing."

She went on to say, "I don't even know what it was, but I said, 'Ooh, put me in it!' And instead of wearing it like you would normally wear it, I was like, 'I am going to do it, have one of my arms out and have it going across my body.' It was the weirdest thing. At that point, you just have to laugh at yourself!"

Robert Pattinson.

While I personally believe Robert Pattinson could never put a sartorial foot wrong, he has other views and we will just have to agree to disagree on that front. In an interview with British GQ the actor said his biggest red carpet regret took place at the 2005 premiere of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.

"I was wearing leather trousers with these cowboy boots and a velvet jacket. I mean, it literally looked like a kid had gone into a dressing-up box," he said.

Zendaya.

I know what you're thinking, 'Zendaya? On this list?!' It's a shock to see her name anywhere near the words "red carpet" and "regret" but I guess we're all human.

The extremely stylish actress told Oprah.com that she has some regrets about the look she wore to the 2011 premiere of Gnomeo and Juliet. "It wasn't very flattering — I hadn't gotten that far in my style evolution yet. I was 13 at the time, but still," she said.

Miley Cyrus.

Miley Cyrus has never been a wallflower when it comes to expressing herself through fashion. She takes big risks and we love her for it.

However, there was one red carpet moment she wished she had rethought before stepping out. "I wore this hippie outfit to Justin Bieber's Never Say Never premiere that I'm like, 'Girl, who told you — it was not Woodstock, it was a premiere," she said in a 2015 interview with Marie Claire. "I had some shady wardrobe choices when I was about 16 to 18."

Rihanna.

So strong is she in her conviction and confidence when it comes to fashion, it's hard to believe Rihanna would ever hold an iota of regret about her style.

In fact, the sheer Swarovski crystal dress she wore to the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards is regarded as one of her most fashion-forward looks. Despite that, she wishes she had made some different choices that evening.

"I just liked it better without the lines underneath," she said in an interview with Vogue. "Could you imagine the CFDA dress with a bra? I would slice my throat. I already wanted to, for wearing a thong that wasn't bedazzled. That's the only regret I have in my life."

Sophie Turner.

I shudder to think of a world where my Queen of the North feels any type of way about herself other than fabulous.

Alas, we are all human and the British actress remembers one particular outfit she wore to a wedding. Whilst technically not a red carpet, the nuptials between Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie were a star-studded event so I'm breaking the rules.

"I'll forever regret this look," she told Elle UK. "One of my worst looks. I had a fashion emergency. It was either the thigh-high boots or these nice heels but I felt like if I just wore the heels all of my leg is showing, if I cover up a little bit then, urgh, it was a disaster. Worst fashion choice."

Paris Hilton.

At the beginning of the millennium, Paris Hilton emerged as a fashion icon thanks to her penchant for Juicy Couture velour tracksuits and pubic bone-skimming midi skirts — love(d) it!

When reflecting on her previous style choices she told Vogue Australia she'd worn something alternative to the 2001 Sundance Film Festival. "I got this dress from Patricia Fields [that] was like a black bustier with a giant pink tutu gown," she said. "I wore it with moon boots because it was snowing, and I couldn't wear my heels, and it was freezing, so I had to wear this beanie. It was too drastic."

Amanda Seyfried.

After playing Karen in the 2004 hit movie Mean Girls, Amanda Seyfried was thrust onto the public scene. While attending the NYC premiere of the film, Amanda says she wishes she had a bit better advice on what to wear.

"I did not have a stylist...I didn't know any of the rules, so I was wearing a white bra and black underwear and no slip," she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "I paid $600 for that dress. I couldn't even afford a ride home. No, I'm kidding, I didn't have a publicist. I didn't have a stylist. I did my own makeup."

Gwyneth Paltrow.

Goop queen and purveyor of all things stylish, Gwyneth Paltrow is humble enough to come forward about some fashion missteps she believes she made in the past. In a Goop interview she reflects on the Calvin Klein dress she wore at the 2000 Oscars.

"It's an okay dress but not Oscars material," she said. "I chose it because I wanted to disappear that year."

Eva Mendes.

The early 2000s were some fairly formative fashion years for us all, weren't they?

Actress Eva Mendes looks back on her styling choices for the 2007 Ghost Rider premiere with a little bit of regret. In an interview with the Associated Press she said she wore a, "strapless, purple dress with necklaces and [her] hair in a really high braid." She continued saying, "it was a beautiful dress, but the way I put everything together, it was Princess Jasmine gone wrong."

Gillian Anderson.

Iconic British actress Gillian Anderson would like to add one more thing to the X-files thank you very much. It comes in the form of the dress she wore to the 1995 Golden Globes.

"I made a fashion choice that I cannot quite understand now," she said in an interview with Elle. "It was a gold dress, slightly like a geisha style, with a band around the middle. I was on the worst-dressed lists all over the world. I don't think I've worn anything quite as offensive since then."

Kourtney Kardashian.

Kourtney Kardashian is not a fan of her 2009 Emmys outfit, which she was quick to bring up during an episode of The Kardashians.

"I went to the Emmys 15 years ago, and the look was very different"' she said during the episode to her husband Travis Barker. "I just wore this random gray — I don't even know the designer, I don't even know where I got it or how I even got dressed."

She then called her sister Kim Kardashian to commiserate over their outfits, with Kim saying she also regretted her look that night.
