CCTV released of 'attempted abduction' of woman in Canberra suburb of Red Hill.

Vision of an attempted abduction in a wealthy Canberra suburb has been released as police call for witnesses to come forward.

Police said two women were walking along Esperance Street in Red Hill just before 7:00pm on Monday when they were approached by a silver Commodore.

The CCTV footage appears to show a man exiting the car and dragging one of the women into the car through the right rear door.

During the struggle he appears to grab her by the hair and kick her.

The man allegedly made several attempts to force the woman into the car and close the door.

But officers said the woman eventually managed to escape and leave with the other woman.

Police said they did not know if the man and two women knew each other but have urged all of them to come forward.

Sergeant Harry Hains said police were alerted to the incident from a member of the public.

“We really want to check on the welfare of the female who was grabbed in that video and put into the car,” he said.

“It obviously constitutes quite a serious assault based on what is seen in the CCTV and we’d love to speak to anyone who knows anything about this incident.”

The car is reported to have damage to both the driver’s side and rear right door.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
