It's been 15 years since the release of Mean Girls. Here's where the cast are now.

Mean Girls is a piece of cinematic mastery for its incredible depiction of schoolyard politics, scandals and parties.

For an entire generation, this movie was an educational, timeless masterclass on the inherent hierarchy of teenage social circles and beyond.

And as a cultural touchstone like no other, I can’t help but wonder, is Karen Smith still dating her first cousin? Has anyone sent Gretchen Weiner a candy cane yet?

Unfortunately due to the film being fictional etc. the answers will never be known.

But here is what the actors of Mean Girls are up to now, 15 years after its release date.

Lindsay Lohan (Cady Heron)

Ah Cady Heron, the woman who made October 3rd an internationally iconic date.

Played by Lindsay Lohan, made famous from Parent Trap, the actress has continued a life in the spotlight following Mean Girls - albeit not always for the most positive reasons.

For a number of years she remained somewhat of a tabloid cover centrepiece for her famous feuds, time in jail for drug possession and appearance on a number of reality television shows.

Most recently, she appeared on Australia's own Masked Singer alongside Dave Hughes, Jackie 'O' Henderson and Danii Minogue, which she will reportedly return to in 2020.

Rachel McAdams (Regina George)

There's no mean girl like Regina George, who personally victimised even the principal of North Shore High.

Played spectacularly well by Rachel McAdams, the film was her first wildly successful role and was quickly followed by her lead part in The Notebook - another movie of iconic proportions.

And her list of accomplishments has only continued since, earning herself an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in the 2015 film Spotlight. In the following year she played Christine Palmer in the Marvel film Doctor Strange.

Long live Regina George.

Amanda Seyfried (Karen Smith)

From the woman who brought us a new understanding of Halloween costumes, Amanda Seyfried has enjoyed a long and lucrative career in Hollywood.

Since the film, she has appeared in a plethora of other movies, notably musical Mamma Mia! in 2008 alongside Meryl Streep, thriller Gone in 2012, Ted 2 in 2015 and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in 2018.

Seyfried also has a child now as of 2017, with her husband Thomas Sadoski.

Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Weiners)

Gretchen Weiners was the secret genius of the mean girls foursome, evinced in her rant on why everyone should "totally just stab Caesar" and the creative intelligence she demonstrated in her creation of the word "fetch".

In real life, Lacey Chabert has taken a liking to Hallmark films, appearing in no less than 17 of the so-bad-they're-good movies. Additionally, she's done a number of voice-over roles in animated franchises, including a Transformers spin-off.

She also now has a daughter, Julia, with her husband Dave Nehdar.

Tina Fey (Ms. Norbury)

Tina Fey was at the helm of Mean Girls: not just playing the feminist teacher Ms Norbury but behind-the-scenes the comedian also wrote the screenplay.

Post 2004, Fey has brought Mean Girls to life in a Broadway production which she received a Tony nomination for.

The critically-acclaimed actress and comedian has enjoyed a highly successful career, including the creation of her television comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

 Lizzy Caplan (Janis Ian)

Since Mean Girls, Lizzy Caplan has starred in a slew of acting roles including in New Girl and True Blood. She's also had the main role in television series Masters of Sex and film Now You See Me 2.

Most recently, she is the lead role in Apple TV's upcoming show Truth Be Told, based on Kathleen Barber's book Are You Sleeping.

In 2017, she married English actor Tom Riley.

Daniel Franzese (Damian Leigh)

Since Mean Girls, Daniel Franzese has revealed that he struggled to find work immediately after the role of Damian but in recent years things are looking positive.

He has written and performed many live comedy shows and also does stand-up comedy. As for his acting career, he has done a number of smaller TV roles but in 2015 had a recurring role in HBO's Looking and ABC's Conviction.

Franzese came out as gay in 2014, and has been a vocal activist for the rights of the LGBTQI+ community since.

Amy Poehler (Mrs. George)

Amy Poehler, who played 'Cool Mum' Mrs. George in Mean Girls, has had a successful career in Hollywood as a comedian, writer, actress and producer.

Since Mean Girls, Poehler has been a frequent cast member on Saturday Night Leave before moving on to Parks and Recreation until 2015.

The critically acclaimed actress has also been in Blades of Glory in 2007, Hamlet 2  in 2008, They Came Together in 2014, and The House in 2017, among others.
