Casey Donovan tracked down the man she thought was 'Campbell'. He left her message on read.

Casey Donovan was madly in love with a man that was actually a woman pretending to be a man for six years.

The now 31-year-old has been very open about the catfishing experience that dominated her teens and early twenties, and she’s even about to host a new Australian version of the MTV show Catfish.

But she’s just revealed that she actually managed to track down the man whose photos had been used to trick her into a fake relationship.

In 2004, when she was just 16, Casey fell in love based off photos ‘Campbell’ sent her on her Nokia.

“He was bald, he had a six pack, he had a sexy V that goes… anyway. He was just a really attractive looking guy,” she told KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O show.

Casey admitted that at the time she thought “what the hell are you doing talking to me?”

He’d send her photos every now and then on her phone or MySpace, and yes that included “a few nudes”, she told Kyle.

Campbell was actually a woman named Olga who had been posing as Campbell’s friend.

Every time they organised to meet, Campbell made up an outlandish excuse and Olga turned up in his place.

She even had her first sexual experience with Olga at the request of Campbell.

As the relationship continued Campbell’s excuses would continue; his car wasn’t working, he had to go to Queensland, his sister was pregnant, someone broke into his house – the lies went on and on.

In her book Big, Beautiful & Sexy, Casey revealed her suspicions were finally roused one day when she discovered a SIM card that supposedly belonged to Campbell on the floor at Olga’s house.

With the help of her manager Jason, she cut ties with Olga (aka Campbell).

While chatting to the radio station yesterday morning, Casey said she managed to find the mystery man she was besotted with for all those years on Instagram.

“I found out that he had.. I think a foot fetish. He lived in the States, and I’ve got no idea how she got hold of his pictures,” she told Kyle and Jackie O.

She sent him a message that said, “This is weird but I was in love with you for six years”.

Casey said he read the message… but didn’t get back to her.

While she’s able to joke about it now, as a result of what she went through Casey spiralled into loneliness, depression and developed a sex addiction.

In March, she appeared on an SBS Insight episode on loneliness, and admitted that still to this day she “doesn’t put expectation into her life”.

In her book she wrote, “I spent six years of my life loving someone who never really existed, being ‘supported’ by a best friend who was deceiving me from the beginning, pulling all the strings. I know everyone gets their heart ripped out every now and again but that … That just took the cake for me!”
