Carrie Fisher's therapy dog Gary pays tribute to "the best mum ever."

In the wake of Carrie Fisher’s death on Wednesday, fans waited hours to hear from her Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford.

He said she was “one-of-a-kind” and “lived her life bravely”.

And her mother Debbie Reynolds, who died just one day after her daughter, was quick to post on Facebook.

Now we have heard from her cherished therapy bulldog and companion, Gary.

“I miss her soooo much, she was the best mom ever,” was posted on the dog’s Instagram account — an official page linked to on Fisher’s website.

When asked about Gary in 2013, Fisher, who has battled mental illness since her early years, told the Herald Tribune that “Gary was also mental”.

“My mother says Gary is a hooligan. Gary is like my heart. Gary is very devoted to me and that calms me down,” she said.

Gary’s “official unofficial” Twitter account has been posting since Fisher’s death yesterday.

In one post, the person behind the account — which on the day after Fisher’s death had 100,000 followers — appeared to speak candidly about their role.

“I’m, like you, just a simple fan of Carrie and Gary,” a statement read.

“I hope, if anything, my tweets help you in some way deal with the loss of Carrie and now her mother.”

The post said media outlets had referenced the page and fans had shared their heartache with the account.

When it was created over a year ago, @Gary_TheDog said Fisher endorsed the account by retweeting it and including a link on her website.

“As a huge Star Wars, Carrie and Gary fan, I felt truly honoured [by the endorsement],” the statement said.

“It was like being told I was the official unofficial Gary Twitter.

“I always tried to keep the tweet fun and light, but due to the events in the last few days, I have felt the grief that most you have felt.”
