Carra Luke's life was dedicated to kindness. It was cut short in an act of violence.

Carra Luke dedicated her life to helping others. She was selfless, caring and kind. An 'always smiling' face to everyone she met — not only in her job as a nurse, but in all the lives she touched.

On Saturday, Carra's life was cut short, allegedly at the hands of her former partner.

Just after midnight, police were called to a home on Osprey Place, Taigum in Brisbane's north, where they found a 48-year-old woman unresponsive, having suffered "significant stab wounds".

Paramedics attempted to revive her but she died at the scene. She has been identified as 48-year-old mother-of-two, Carra.

About 40 minutes later, police arrested a 52-year-old man at an address on Hackman Street in McDowall, about 11km away.

On Sunday, police confirmed they had charged the man, who was known to Carra, with one count each of domestic violence murder and entering a dwelling with intent to commit a domestic violence offence.

The man has been identified as Carra's former partner, Shane Scheikowski, per the ABC. He is due to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

Assistant Commissioner Rhys Wildman described the scene as "traumatic for all involved".

Carra was the 48th Australian woman killed this year and the fourth woman killed in just six days, according to Sherele Moody's Australian Femicide Watch.

Neighbour Jackson Hughesman said Carra was a "kind and caring person who would go to extremes for anyone she met."

"She would always stop to check up on people and say hello," he told media.

One friend described her online as a "beautiful woman" who was "always smiling and a great mum".

Carra's workplace Nundah Doctors Surgery issued a statement remembering her as a "wonderful nurse, colleague, and dear friend".

"A most empathetic and caring human being, nurse, mother, and friend, Carra has been with us for 20 years and was the heart and soul of the practice," principal doctor Margaret Cotter said.

"She has cared for her patients and helped through the most difficult times with the greatest professionalism and dedication. She is irreplaceable, and we will miss her every day. She will always remain in our hearts here at the practice."
