Caroline Flack, host of Love Island UK, has died at age 40.

Caroline Flack, former host of Love Island UK, has passed away at age 40.

The 40-year-old’s family confirmed that the popular television presenter was found dead in her London apartment on Saturday. A lawyer for her family said she ended her own life.

“We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today, the 15th of February,” her family said in a statement. “We would ask that the press respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time and we would ask they make no attempt to contact us and/or photograph us.”

Love Island and ITV have also released a statement, writing: “Everybody at Love Island and ITV is shocked and saddened by this desperately sad news. Caroline was a much loved member of the Love Island team and our sincere thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends.”

Flack hosted five seasons of Love Island before stepping down in December of last year, after being charged with assaulting her partner, Lewis Burton.

She pleaded not guilty and was due for trial on March 4.

She was one of the most in-demand personalities on British TV, also co-hosting The X-Factor and was the winner of 2014’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Flack’s passing is the third death associated with Love Island UK, following the deaths of former contestants Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Gradon. There is now mounting pressure for the popular reality series, which is broadcast by Channel Nine in Australia, to be axed.

Former contestants of Love Island have paid tribute to Flack, with 2018 contestant Wes Nelson saying she was “one of the warmest funniest people I’ve ever met”.

Olivia Jade Atwood, from the 2017 season of Love Island, said the presenter “looked after the islanders as if they were her own”.

Amber Rose Gill, who won the series in 2019, said she had “no words” after the death of her “supportive friend in a time of need” who she called an “amazing woman”.

What a cruel world we live in ????So much I want to say in anger & frustration however the priority lies with respecting Caroline’s family at this time. The fact that we’re all sat here tonight with such devastating news all too close to home is just too much and too soon. Caroline will always be a beautiful, funny, talented and unique woman with a lot of passion and heart for all that she did. I can’t believe you’re no longer here. You were and always will be loved by so many and I’m so sorry this life didn’t give you the support that you needed. I hope we all learn something from this tragedy ????
