This case of life imitating art does is definitely not fetch…
An American high school is desperately trying to claw back copies of a school yearbook – dubbed “a real-life Burn Book” – in which insulting and offensive messages were printed under some students’ photographs.
The yearbook was then widely distributed.
It appears the yearbook editors at Dallas’ W.T. White High School may have been inspired by the 2004 teen movie Mean Girls, in which a “Burn Book” records rumours, gossip and offensive lies about each student of a fictional high school.
But the book – which also thanks principal for proof-reading the publication – is causing embarrassment and distress for a number of upset teens and parents, NBC reports.
One of those teens is the school’s prom queen, Juanita Cedillo, who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair to get around.
The personal quote under Juanita’s picture has been replaced with this insult: “Want to hear the most annoying noise in the world?”
“I questioned myself,” Juanita told NBC.
“I was like, ‘What could be that annoying noise? Was it my voice?'”
