The one thing the cast of Bump wants fans to take away from their Christmas movie.

Just in time for the holidays, the cherished Australian TV show Bump is giving viewers a final present in the form of a Stan Original Christmas special, Bump: A Christmas Film.

The new wholesome movie, currently streaming on Stan, doesn't actually take place after the series finale. Instead, it sits chronologically between episodes nine and ten of the final season.

The narrative places the family in a moment of happiness, right before the heart-wrenching loss of Angie (Claudia Karvan).

"It's set after Ollie's given birth and while Angie's in remission. I guess we just put that out of our minds. None of us knows what the future holds. We're all going on as though we're going to live forever," Claudia Karvan told Mamamia in a chat with the whole cast earlier this year.

"It was our characters, but in a vacuum. We could really just play and test the limits because it's not like we're going to break the story — it's existing in its own space."

This relatively peaceful setting sees the recent arrival of Oly (Nathalie Morris) and Santi's (Carlos Sanson Jr.) second child, a baby boy named Angelo. The central plot of the film revolves around an ambitious holiday, as Rosa (Paula Garcia) has meticulously organised a South American cruise docking in Colombia for a festive Christmas reunion.

But of course, since the Chalmers-Davis and Hernández families are involved, their carefully laid plans swiftly descend into a chaotic holiday as they must navigate hectic family problems — all on the high seas. Ahoy, maties!

The audience can look forward to also seeing the familiar faces of Angus Sampson as Dom Chalmers, Christian Byers as Bowie Chalmers-Davis, and Ava Cannon as Jacinda Hernández Chalmers-Davis.

Looking back on the final season, Nathalie Morris said there was one memory she'll cherish the most.

"The birth scene for us at the very end of the season. That was nice because while we were shooting it, there were lots of different crew members who shared their birth stories," Morris said.

"It was very emotional… everyone felt like we were delivering this baby together as a team. It was beautiful."

Despite fans believing the final season was going to be the last we saw of the Bump fam, Carlos Sanson Jr. teased that there was a cheeky clue in the last season that hinted there was more story to be told.

"There was a planted Easter egg. In episode eight, there was an Easter egg that could be turned into a movie," Sanson Jr. admitted.

"When they're clearing out the house, we get out a family photo where we were on a cruise." Okay, that's genius.

When the cast found out that the movie was happening, they were overjoyed. "It was just like, yes! We get to go again. It's not something we've done before. It's usually a series. And it's a film that's going to be set in Colombia — it's super special and I was super excited," Sanson Jr. said.

"I've been calling it a Bump dessert," added Karvan. "We had the whole smorgasbord and now this is dessert."

The filming experience in Colombia was a personal highlight for Sanson Jr.

"Three of us were able to go over to Columbia and we got footage there. I remember we were talking about how it's never really been done before for an Australian film," said Sanson Jr, who is of Chilean, Cuban, and Nicaraguan heritage.

"It's the perfect ending for a show that's been a celebration of the South American culture."

While the final season of Bump had a sombre mood due to Angie's cancer diagnosis, the Christmas film will carry a lighter tone.

"I think the feeling at the end of series five was such an emotional sort of rollercoaster — especially the last three episodes," Karvan said.

"The beautiful thing about this film is it's a celebration of the Colombian culture and of the family. You're gonna have a lot more laughs and it's Christmas time, but we do it in the Bump way."

For fans who have been with the Stan series since day one when the show premiered in 2021, the Christmas movie will be a final piece of the Bump puzzle.

"It's nice to bring families together. A lot of people watch it, especially parents watch it with their kids, so we've managed to bridge that gap," Karvan said.

Ultimately, the cast has one wish for what viewers will take away from Bump: A Christmas Film.

"I want viewers to book a ticket when the credits roll to have a holiday in Colombia," Santos Jr. said. Mission: accomplished!
