On the weekend I was browsing through the aisles of Target, as you do, when a bag stopped me in my tracks.

It was the Weave Detail Tote Bag. The perfect oversized tote in a gorgeous new-season shade, and way more expensive looking than its $60 price tag. Cha-ching.

I shared the find on my Instagram and was instantly hit with a comment by financial planner Canna Campbell, known for her savvy fashion buys.

"I have that bag in beige and it's seriously good!" she told me.

Turns out the style has been in stock since last spring, but was recently refreshed in new neutral colours. There's also a smaller square tote version.

I probably don't need to tell you that woven bags are having a moment.

The trend has been around for a while now thanks to Italian fashion house Bottega Veneta, known for its signature woven leather accessories that retail well into the thousands.

It spawned a movement for more affordable woven options in soft neoprene, cotton and natural fibres like raffia. Where a shiny leather tote reads as sleek and chic, these tactile styles offer a bohemian energy which feels correct for fashion's current mood.

As we start to transition out of high summer and get back to work, a woven tote strikes the right balance between crafty and corporate. The stretchy finish also means you can fit more things in there (important.)

One glance at recent street style and runway imagery tells us bags are going back to bigger, bolder proportions and it's all about embracing the slouch.

Bottega Veneta's "Hop Large Shoulder Bag", a giant suede tote, is the latest It-bag carried by celebrities including Hailey Bieber, Dakota Johnson and a slew of influencers. But for a cool $7.4k, I'm going to be putting my eggs in the $60 basket instead, thanks.
