21-year-old Brisbane woman was allegedly "tortured and burned" by her partner for weeks.

A woman fighting for life in a Brisbane hospital was allegedly tortured and burned by her boyfriend for weeks before he reported her “horrific” injuries to police.

Tanya Nicole Roberts remains in a critical condition in an induced coma more than one week after she was found in a unit in the inner-city suburb of Bulimba.

Boyfriend Nicholas John Crilley, 31, was charged with a string of serious assault offences on Monday after he was arrested following an alleged police pursuit.

They include intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, torture, deprivation of liberty and unlawfully supplying a destructive substance to his 21-year-old partner.

Crilley was slapped with several additional driving, robbery and assaulting police charges on Tuesday related to the pursuit.

Clayfield residents and 20 officers, including those from Polair and the dog squad, helped detain Crilley after he allegedly stole several cars as he tried to evade police.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rod Watts said Ms Roberts had sustained "horrific" injuries that included burns to her body and facial fractures.

"We believe the injuries occurred over a number of weeks but we're uncertain of where they've taken place," he said on Tuesday.

Sgt Watts said police did not believe the incidents took place at their Bulimba property.

"It's obviously very difficult when we can't speak to her to actually find out what did happen," he said.

"When she recovers we'll attempt to speak with her and get her side of the story."

Sgt Watts said although she hadn't been reported missing, Ms Roberts had not been seen in the days leading up to when she was found on July 2.

He also confirmed Crilley was the man who made the panicked call to police.

The 31-year-old, who was born in Papua New Guinea, did not face the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday but was represented by his solicitor.

Adam Magill said his client was injured in the police pursuit so he had only received limited instructions.

"The allegations are quite heinous so it's going to take some time to go through," he said outside court.

Mr Magill said Crilley was aware Ms Roberts had been hospitalised, but he was still coming to terms "with what happened".

Mr Magill said it was too early to tell if his client intended to fight the charges.

Crilley was remanded in custody before his matter returns to court on August 7.
