1. Man’s body found in Brisbane wheelie bin

A man’s decomposing body has been found stuffed into a Brisbane rubbish bin in what police are calling a horrific and harrowing crime scene.

Detective Inspector Mark Thompson says officers who responded to a resident’s calls about a “bad odour coming from a wheelie bin” found a “harrowing” scene, with the body likely to have been there for up to 10 days.

“I can’t go into what looked like or its condition … I have spoken (to the officers who found the body and) as you can imagine it’s fairly horrific,” he told reporters on Sunday.

Speaking to media at the scene, a resident said there had been a foul smell in the bins for a few days.

He opened the wheelie-bin which had been “overstuffed” with bin bags.

“I only lifted the lid before a whole heap of flies hit me in the face and I was done,” he said.

He did not see the body, but alerted the real estate agency who told the police.

Officers were called to a unit complex on Yeronga Street in Yeronga at 7pm on Saturday.

Det Inspect Thompson says the man has been identified but they are yet to contact his family.

Police have released photographs of two men, aged 38 and 30, and two women, aged 27 and 23, they would like to speak to about the death.

Members of the public are advised not to approach the people but to call triple zero if they spotted them.

Det Inspect Thompson also called for any members of the public who had seen suspicious activity on Yeronga Street, Cowper Street, Shottery Street or at the Yeronga train station to contact Crime Stoppers.

A number of crime scenes have been declared as detectives work to determine the cause of the man’s death.

Investigations continue.

2. Sydney physiotherapist ‘filmed patients’

A western Sydney physiotherapist is due to face court accused of secretly filming patients with a hidden camera.

Officers were called to a Greenfield Park clinic on November 12 after a camera was found concealed in a change room.

Police will allege the camera was hidden in a clothes hook on the wall and patients were filmed getting changed.

A 52-year-old man has been granted bail to face the Fairfield Local Court on Monday charged with two counts of filming a person’s private parts without consent, and installing a device to observe or film another.

An Egyptian actress facing trial on public obscenity charges for wearing a dress revealing the entirety of her legs says she did not mean to offend anyone.

In a Facebook statement late on Saturday, Rania Youssef says she may have misjudged the reaction to the dress and been influenced by fashion experts.

Youssef, due in court on January 12, wore the dress on Thursday for the closing ceremony of a Cairo film festival.

Images of her were widely shared on social media, prompting a group of lawyers to file a complaint that was taken up by the chief prosecutor.

It is the latest instance of ostensibly secular authorities siding with religious conservatives in Muslim-majority Egypt, where the military overthrew an elected Islamist president in 2013.

Strong winds and high temperatures have tested exhausted firefighters battling more than 110 blazes across central Queensland throughout Sunday.

On Sunday night, more than 160 firefighting crews were battling the blazes, with bushfires at Deepwater and Eungella, in central Queensland, Tinnanbar, on the Fraser Coast, Karara, near Warwick in the state’s south, and North Stradbroke Island of most concern.

Residents in the Captain Creek area, west of Agnes Water, were told to prepare to leave on Sunday night as an unpredictable bushfire was moving southeast towards the region.

To the south, evacuated residents in the Winfield area, south of Baffle Creek, were advised they could return home on Sunday night as the Deepwater blaze no longer threatened their properties.

And further west, Lowmead residents were told the immediate threat to their homes had passed and they could return home to their rural community.

East of Brisbane, a bushfire on North Stradbroke Island’s east coast, near Main Beach, was not threatening homes, however changing wind conditions late on Sunday were expected to push smoke and embers towards the mainland.

These wind changes are expected to cause spotting and blow smoke over to Russell Island and MacLeay Island.

Bruce Gunn, the Bureau of Meteorology’s state manager for Queensland, told reporters on Sunday night that severe thunderstorms were expected around the coastal area by the time the wind heads north on Monday afternoon to the Capricornia and Wide Bay area.

If a severe thunderstorm interacts with a fire it can have unpredictable consequences and so it was important to remain vigilant, he said.

Renowned US astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson is being investigated over sexual misconduct allegations by Fox and National Geographic, the producers of his hit television show Cosmos Tyson say.

The investigation comes after website Patheos on Thursday published accusations of sexual misconduct against Tyson from two women.

One of the women said Tyson touched her inappropriately in 2009, but in a Facebook post on Saturday, he said he had been attempting to look under her sleeve to examine a tattoo of the solar system.

The other woman said Tyson made inappropriate sexual advances towards her, including at a private meeting over wine and cheese at his apartment. Tyson wrote that his overtures of friendship had been misinterpreted.

In the post, Tyson also addressed an earlier allegation of rape made against him by a fellow graduate student in 1984.

He said he had a brief relationship with the woman, but denied raping her.
