While styles may come and go, the colours of wedding dresses have stayed relatively the same.

Brides wear white and bridemaids sport the colour. Obvious, right?

Well, until now because the biggest wedding trend for 2017 is flipping all rules of tradition on its head.

According to to the trend forecasting picks from the folks over at Etsy, this year will see brides 'colour swapping' with their bridal parties.

Yep, that means it will be the bridemaids in white and the bride in something brighter and bolder.

If you're after something a little different for your wedding this could be it.

Colour swapping combines two major bridal trends that have been gaining traction recently - colourful wedding dresses and white bridesmaid dresses.

Many have also chosen to dress their bridesmaids in the 'traditional' wedding white or ivory variation, including Kim Kardashian.

And remember THAT Pippa Middleton bridesmaid dress? It almost stole the show.

It's this possibility that puts some brides off the all-white wedding.

"I had thought about doing an all white wedding, but I definitely think that’s your special day to be the only one wearing white and standing out," wrote one user in wedding forum Wedding Bee.

However others believe it's a great choice.

"I like it.  It looks cohesive and elegant.  Plus, it shows that the bride and groom are confident enough not to worry that their bridal party will 'outshine' them," added another.

In fact, this 'trend' actually bears strong similarities to the origins of bridesmaids and groomsmen.

They were required to dress just like the bride and groom to "confuse vengeful spirit presences (or real-life jealous suitors) who might try to harm the newlywed."
