A bride washed off her makeup 20 minutes before the ceremony. Her makeup artist just responded.

When it comes to looking and feeling your best, your wedding day is probably up there as one of the most important days of your life. And chances are you'll spend a lot of time and money trying to make sure everything from your hair to your makeup is just right.

Because you want to feel like the best version of yourself — but still, y'know, look like you.

Of course, things don't always go to plan. And goodness, have we heard some wedding horror stories. As it turns out, there's a new one to add to the books — because for one bride, she disliked her bridal makeup so much, she proceeded to wash it off 20 minutes before her ceremony, and do her own makeup.

And yes, if the sheer thought of it gives you hives — same.

In a now-viral post, bride Lauren Avery documented the entire debacle on TikTok (because, of course), where she shared everything she disliked about her professional bridal makeup look — from her pink lip colour to her allegedly "unblended" foundation.

In the clip, Lauren is filmed standing over a bathroom basin, washing off her makeup as her bridesmaid holds her hair back. She shared that she "hated" her makeup look and didn't feel like herself.

Overlayed text on the now-viral post reads: "Core memory: getting my makeup done for my wedding and I hated it so much I decided to wash it off and redo it myself."

Yikes.

"I asked for natural, glowy, blushy, bronzy and it was very powdery," Lauren wrote in the comment section of her post.

"I looked like one colour (very pale)," she continued. "And it just didn't feel like me'."

And we… we just…

She also confirmed she'd had a trial with the makeup artist before her wedding, and voiced her concerns about certain things she would like tweaked for the big day. She shared that while she thought the makeup artist understood what she wanted — she didn't even come close.

"[She] didn't let me see the makeup till she was done, then it was not at all what I wanted," Lauren explained.

The video quickly went viral, with many viewers sharing their conflicting thoughts on the controversial post.

While some praised the bride for changing her makeup so she felt more like herself on her wedding day, others weighed in on the impact the video would have on the makeup artist, and whether the bride had properly communicated what she wanted.

Now, the makeup artist has stepped forward and shared her perspective on what happened.

JUICY.

"I honestly was shocked to see this," makeup artist @twirlyshears said, noting that the bride's wedding took place back in August. "There were no indicators that she was unhappy.

"I've been doing this for over 20 years, and I've learnt to communicate very well with my brides, and I've also learnt through body language," she shared.

"So even when a bride says she loves it, often I can tell when she doesn't."

Confirming that Lauren had done a makeup trial before the wedding, the makeup artist shared that she had initially provided feedback on a few things she wanted to change, including her eyeshadow colour and adding more bronzer.

"She mentioned she 'loved' the lip and cheek colour, so I kept that the same on the wedding day and made the changes that she asked for."

The wedding was also held in August last year, meaning several months went by before the bride shared the TikTok.

"It seemed to me that she was happy — she gave me the biggest smile I've ever seen on a bride. So, I had no idea," said the makeup artist, adding, "Her washing off her makeup doesn't really bother me. It's her money down the drain."

The makeup artist said it was the bride's character that hurt the most, after she'd seemed "very kind and easy to work with", which left the makeup pro feeling blindsided and deceived.

"I'm not even on TikTok, so I had no idea this was happening. One of my artists saw this and said it was going viral and reached out to me. When she told me what was going on, I was trying to think of which bride it could possibly be. When I saw it was this specific bride — that's what hurt."

The makeup artist also shared some advice for future brides, emphasising that you should do whatever makes you feel best on your big day — whether that be getting your makeup professionally done or doing it yourself.

"Brides, if you're getting married, you don't have to hire a makeup artist," she said. "If you love the way that you do your own makeup, then do it on your wedding day."

She also encouraged brides to communicate with their makeup artists and to always voice any concerns, to make sure they feel happy and comfortable with their wedding makeup look.

"You are not going to offend us. You're paying for our service, and it's our job to make sure you're comfortable," she said. "Just communicate. Let us know what's going on."

She also thanked other makeup artists for their support, with many voicing their opinion in the comment section.

"As a literal wedding makeup artist myself, you did amazing. Her base was flawless. You are not the problem," one person wrote.

Someone else wrote, "I knew her character as soon as she said, 'I can't wait to post this on TikTok.' You handled this with grace."

"Hearing ur voice shake broke my heart. I thought your work looked great," wrote another.
