Every time I get my hair done I feel two things.

1. Happy, because my hair looks the best it has in months.

2. Sad, because I know I'll never achieve the same look until my next appointment.

No matter how many times I ask my hairdresser to explain the art of the perfect blowout to me, my hands just do not cooperate. The twirling of the round brush, the weight of the blowdryer in my left hand, the sweat accumulating on my brow. It's all too much.

I walk away from my bathroom with sore arms, a head full of frizz and a heaviness in my heart.

Instead, I've tried all the tricks in the trade to fake my blowout. A blowout without the 'blow'. I've tried using a straightener, a curler and even rollers to replicate the look — but nothing never quite weighed up to the real thing. That, and my hair was becoming fried from the constant heat damage.

Then, one day, everything changed.

I was introduced to the Bondi Boost Infrared Bounce Brush. And this tool soon became the most valuable part of my getting-ready routine.

Soon enough, all of my other hair tools were cast aside and I could finally say that I did it.

I've found the easiest way to achieve the perfect bouncy blowout without a visit to the salon.

Here's everything you need to know.

So basically, if your straightener and round brush had a baby, it would be this Bondi Boost tool.

It's designed for dry hair, so it's not exactly a blow-dryer, but it also means there's no need to have perfectly clean hair when you use it. If you have opted to wash beforehand, all you need to do is give your hair a quick dry before you start styling (no round brush required, yippee!).

Often when I do attempt the classic blow dry, I'm left with a big frizzy mane. I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing (it's definitely something I'm doing), but I can never seem to achieve sleek and smooth hair after washing and drying it. Until now… The bristles of the brush are infused with aloe to add shine (the more, the merrier), as well as reduce frizz. Problem solved.

I also loved that it preaches 'heat style without the damage', given my fiddling with my straightener on the daily wasn't doing me any favours. The infrared technology means your hair can stay healthier over time, since it works to penetrate the inner layers of the hair, heating from within. How, you ask? I read the fine print so you don't have to.

The brush uses negative ions to neutralise positive ions (found in dry and damaged hair) to seal the cuticle of the hair and leave your hair soft, smooth and free from frizz. Yay science!

Honourable mention to the fact it comes in two different barrel sizes depending on your hair length and type.

How do I achieve a bouncy blowout with the brush?

Ok, I'm not going to lie. I didn't love this tool straight away. But then I found out it was because I wasn't using it properly. I wasn't holding my hair long enough or wrapping it around the barrel correctly, so it was falling a little flat. Then, after some brief TikTok research, I eventually discovered that I needed to adjust how I was using it.

Now I have the technique down, my hair and I are bouncing all over the place. So, I'm here to make sure you don't make the same mistake.

Contrary to my lack of skill, it takes a little more than just running your hair through this brush to see any shape.

What you're going to want to do is section your hair and work your way up. Start by grabbing a piece of your dry hair and roll your hair up the brush, starting from the ends and keep the brush at a 45-degree angle.

Make sure your ends are thoroughly wrapped around the brush (important for the flicky bits!!) as you hold it there for 10-15 seconds. Then repeat this around your head and you're golden.

The verdict…

If you're my hairdresser, please look away now, but I was guilty of using 101 hair tools after I wash my hair. Blow-dryer, then straightener and then curler. I know, it's amazing that there's still any hair on my head.

This was all to just try and achieve some volume and reduce the frizz that comes from a wash. So it's fair to say, I was very impressed by the way that the Bondi Boost Infrared Brush not only eliminates the need for half of my hot tools, but it actually leaves my hair feeling soft and protected as opposed to stiff and like it could snap at any moment.

It definitely takes some practice and I'd recommend a hairspray or mousse so your hair holds after you style, but all in all, I'm thrilled to announce I will be retiring my tired straightener for now.

If you're a girl like me who can't use a blow dryer and round brush at the same time to save their life, this one could be for you.
