If you’re a parent, you might want to sit down for this one.

The very first episode of season four of Black Mirror is going to play on your biggest fear – losing your child in a public place and never finding them again.

The episode “Arkangel” is directed by Jodie Foster and it’s shaping up to be one of the most unsettling episodes ever created by the sci-fi series.

In case you missed it, Black Mirror is a Netflix anthology series which taps into our collective unease with the modern world.

It’s made up of stand-alone episodes which you can watch without having any context about the series as a whole. Each episode tells a suspenseful tale and they often end with an unsettling conclusion.

“Arkangel” follows the story of a single mum (Rosemarie DeWitt) who loses her young daughter, Sarah, in the park. After she finally locates her daughter, the mum starts to worry that she could go missing again – and this time for good.

So she takes her to an experimental treatment facility. There a doctor injects a substance directly into Sarah’s temple. The substance is meant to track her at all times and keep her safe.

Of course, in true Black Mirror style, things do not go to plan.

This story line is bound to tap into parents’ greatest fears. The fear of losing your child, of them being alone in the world, and of you never really knowing what happened to them.

The episode also kind of has an anti-vax theme running through it, which adds to the general eeriness.

The tracker which is injected into Sarah’s temple is sanctioned by a higher body and the parents are told it’s safe.

The parents inject their children with the unknown substance with the hope of keeping them safe and instead things go wrong and they risk almost losing their children.

This episode is definitely not for the faint of heart and if it’s any indication of what season four will be like, it looks like we’re in for a spooky ~ and unsettling ~ ride.

Season four of Black Mirror will drop on Netflix very soon.
