The incredible moment a dad helps deliver his baby boy on a hospital emergency room floor.

Travis Hogan made one promise to his wife Jes as she went into labour with their sixth child – that they would make it to hospital in time to give birth.

The Kansas father came through on his vow, but only just. Travis helped his wife deliver their son Maxwell on the floor of the hospital’s emergency room on 24 July 2017.

The incredible moment baby Max came into the world was captured by the couple’s birth photographer, Tammy Karin, who later shared their story on her website, Little Leapling Photography.

In her own words, Jes Hogan described the lead-up and birth of her son. The mum said that in her final weeks she experienced Braxton Hicks (false contractions).

As this was not the couple’s first time welcoming a child (already with five little girls at home), they weren’t too worried when Jes finally did go into labour and made their way to hospital.

"We went from almost three centimetres dilated to 4cm in the first hour of arrival, and we thought we were in the early stages of welcoming our last baby into our family.

"After four hours of labouring... we chose to leave the hospital without any further progress and contractions that had begun to space out.

"At home, I was 5cm dilated but would not move any further and contractions were uncomfortable, but never really gave me the feeling they would amount to anything more than a sleepless night."

Jes' water still hadn't broken so she wasn't worried when after a few days her contractions hadn't progressed. But at about 2am on the Monday - almost a week after her contractions began, she thought she noticed a change, but decided to let herself drift back to sleep.

"The pain wasn’t troubling me too badly, I kept telling myself I would just 'know' if this was the real thing."

But about an hour later she awoke to "strange, long contraction" - and turning to her husband, said, "Travis, I think this is it."

After rolling out of bed, Jes felt her water break and suddenly thought, "Oh god, we’re not going to make it. We are going to have this baby at home."

However, Travis assured his wife they would make it to the hospital and managed to get Jes into the car and on her way.

"His level of preparedness and the calm he had is something I’m still in awe of," she said.

Jes and Travis arrived at hospital, but didn't make to a hopital bed before the baby wouldn't wait any longer and started to arrive.

"I made it just past the second set of automatic doors, into the next hall which luckily was not carpeted like the one we had just stepped out of.

"I then started to take my pants off because I could feel my body pushing the baby’s head out.

"I reached down and could feel his head crowning with my hand.

"I looked at my husband and said, 'Travis catch him!' Without any hesitation he did just that as I felt my body involuntarily pushing his head the rest of the way out."

Travis and an ER nurse helped Jes to deliver the baby boy - less than 25 minutes after her water had broken.

"I was also totally in love with the little person laying on me, and even more completely in love with my husband who didn’t miss a beat and kept his word that we would, in fact, make it to the hospital. Even if it was only a few steps inside!"

"My god, I truly don’t think I’ve ever been more enamoured with that man."

Jes described it as her "craziest birth" but also the "most perfect".

"It was beautiful and I’ll forever love every memory of it."

In a Q&A video on her Facebook page, photographer Tammy Karin said she - and Jes - wanted to share the amazing birth story with the world to show just how powerful it can be to capture the moment of birth through photography.
