The 'Italian bob' is the haircut you're about to see everywhere.

Every time one year ends and another one begins, there's something about getting a fresh haircut that just makes you feel like a million bucks. A new version of you. There's truly nothing better.

But if you're anything like us, and you've already booked your hair appointment, chances are you have no idea what you want (new colour? A trim? Maybe a fringe??). This means you'll invariably sit in the hairdressing chair, agree on something you don't want and walk out with some regrets.

The good news is, we're here to help.

Because we asked celebrity hairstylist Anthony Nader from RAW by Anthony Nader exactly what is going to be trending in 2025, and he said there's one cut we're going to see everywhere.

And if you've been looking to finally go shorter, there's never been a better time to take the leap.

It's called the 'Italian bob' and it's like the popular 'old money' haircut, only better.

Let us explain.

What is the Italian bob?

According to Nader, the Italian bob "will always be a winner" and "not just for 2025 either." We love a trend with a long life!

Characterised by a blunt, chin-length cut and soft, subtle layers on top, this version of the bob is all about shape, texture and volume.

Unlike a standard lob or a French bob, it doesn't have long layers at the front, but rather stays short around the whole head, with layers for added volume and movement.

As Nader explained, "It's a chin-length bob cut that typically features minimal layering, resulting in a clean and structured look (which I absolutely love)."

"Why I tend to sway more towards this classic short hair shape is because it is a chic, yet powerful aesthetic of the 1960s," shared Nader. "With a mix of glamour and nonchalant charm, the haircut is perfect for embracing 'la dolce vita' this season and reruns of White Lotus Season 2 for good measure."

How to style the 'old money' bob.

Worn straight for a sleek and sophisticated look, flicked up at the ends or styled with curls or a wave for a voluminous texture, the Italian bob is one of those versatile beauty looks that look good on every hair type. Yes, short hair can be versatile!

There's also Kourtney Kardashian, wearing it voluminous and bouncy for more of a traditional take on the style:

The best part about the Italian bob? It can be customised to any hair type or texture — just make sure you see someone who will be able to tailor your cut to your individual face shape (and hair).

Because if there's one thing that NOT trending on the hair front for 2025, Nader said unrealistic expectations when it comes to styling can kindly go in the bin.

"You know when you bring a celebrity photo to your hairdresser for reference, hoping they can create the EXACT style on you, only to be told you have a completely different hair type? It's time to embrace the era of personalised hair styling. That is, cuts and styles that actually suit your specific hair," Nader shared.

"I personally vote hard for less Sabrina Carpenter hair referencing, please. Before you crucify me, let me clarify. The biggest problem is that clients bring in that same Sabrina Carpenter reference (that went viral) and it's so not achievable for women to adapt at home and only at an in-salon service.""All that added teasing, blow-drying and tonguing can't be re-created at home. Oh, and did I mention the two meters of blonde hair extensions Sabrina has for good measure? Her hairstyle can be adapted, of course, but it will be a less voluminous version. This is where the consultation with your hairstylist comes in, to make sure everyone is a happy camper."

So, if you've been toying with the idea of shorter hair for ages — this is your sign! Just make sure you go in for a solid consultation, so your hairstylist can give you a cut that suits your hair type.
