Becoming pregnant and starting a family can be an exciting and seamless process for many couples. 

But for others, the heartache of getting to the pregnancy stage is a rollercoaster of emotion and assisted fertility treatments. 

With one in six Australians experiencing infertility, more people than ever before are seeking the help of fertility specialists to become parents.

Channel 9's gripping new series, Big Miracles, follows 10 couples on their journey to parenthood.

Here's what we know about the new series.

It packs an emotional punch.

If the preview trailer is anything to go by, this looks like seriously emotional television. The series follows 10 couples who desperately want a child on their individual fertility journeys. 

As anyone who has experienced fertility issues or IVF treatment knows, the couples must go through an often gruelling physical, emotional, and financial rollercoaster.

Have your tissue box at the ready to hear the heartbreaking stories as each couple, and in one case 'a village', learn about the difficulties they must face before they can hope to hold a baby in their arms.

There's plenty of expert guidance.

Hosted by one of Australia's most beloved actor's from stage and screen, Lisa McCune, Big Miracles also shows the amazing work of dedicated doctors, nurses, and scientists committed to helping each couple achieve their dreams of starting a family.

From a woman with severe endometriosis to men with low sperm counts, these hopeful couples need the support and help of fertility experts. 

The impressive list of specialists helping the couples include some of Australia's most experienced fertility doctors. 

There's Professor Peter Illingworth, Medical Director at IVF Australia and a renowned fertility specialist, Dr Manny Mangat, a highly regarded fertility specialist with a Certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, the highest possible credential for a specialist in her field, and many more.

Who are the couples seeking help? 

Big Miracles follows 10 couples from New South Wales and Victoria who have had their own unique fertility struggles.

First up there is Courtney (32) and husband Woody (42) who live in Sydney. This adventurous couple met in the Swiss Alps six years ago and have spent the last two years trying for a baby to no avail.

There's Amelia (35) and husband Andrew (44) who have been together for 10 years and trying for kids for the last five years. The couple have only just discovered Andrew has low sperm mobility, which means the couple need to move to full IVF treatment.

Aimee (32) and husband Ryan (31) live in Walgett in northern NSW. The regional couple have had trouble accessing the help they need to conceive in their small town as Aimee suffers from a low egg count.

Sheila (45) and Tyson (46) met and fell in love only recently. This determined couple are desperate for a child but have the hardest road ahead because of Sheila's age and biological clock.

Samantha (34) and husband Jason (37) are from Western Sydney. They are they only couple with a child, seven-month-old daughter Georgia. But with Sam's recent recovery from endometriosis surgery, the pair only have a small window to conceive a longed-for second child.

Same-sex couple Angus (39) and Adam (39) have been together for 19 years and have only recently found a surrogate to help them and their egg donor (Adam's sister Corrine) achieve their dream of becoming dads. 

Finally, there's Katrina (32) and husband Steve (36), from the outer suburbs of Melbourne who have been together for nine years. Katrina is a cancer survivor and the pair have so far gone through 11 rounds of IVF hoping for a baby.
